Restore Pogoplug E02
February 24, 2014 10:37AM
I've been tinkering with my original Black E02 pogo for a little bit, and had install openmediavault (Instructions here : http://forums.openmediavault.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=514) and everything seemed ok, until I wanted to upgrade from squeeze to wheezy so I could use 0.5 relase. Well that didn't go so well! So I decided to reinstall everything, and while I was in there, I thought I'd install the recovery system v2, but I couldn't get everything set up, and tried to revert back to the regular boot on the nand (alarm I believe), which as you can tell from this writing, didn't end quite as I expected.
The current system will not boot so I've ordered another one, ordered a USB to TTL adapter and the wiring for it.

I was wondering if I could:

1. Ideally, I'd like to back up the new pogoplug I ordered and save, just in case I need to go back to square one (can I do that within the ssh session before I install the uBoot?)

2. Dead pogo - I know I need the serial connection (which should be arriving soon), would it be easier to use the backup from the new pogo, reflash and start from scratch?

3. I've been playing with android -> linux and I'm assuming that the pogo is set up the same way? (pogo nand = kernal - boot - system).

Sorry for the long post!

Yes. As soon as you can ssh in as root, dump NAND partitions to USB thumb drive.

You can restore original NAND partitions using the backups dumped in step 1.

Pogo boot: stage1 ROM --> stage2 NAND U-Boot --> kernel.

The Pogo E02 does not have UART booting. So if mtd0 (i.e. u-Boot) is messed up, you can't recover without JTAG.

Hello:
I have two Pogoplug E02 that I converted to VAMPs to act as Squeezeboxes. This mod was on the Vortexbox web site but I have very little knowledge of linux and the OS on these won't even let me login as the password won't let me start a putty session or a WINSCP session w/ them. I can find them on my home network through my router software but thats about it.
Any help would be appreciated.
