I followed the guide on http://projects.doozan.com/debian/

but it isnt clear to me if i need to install arch first or not?

but i get following errors :

I followed this tutorial to install debian on pogo V4-A1 and it worked fine if we follow all steps.

ar isn't on the pogoplug. scp /tmp/debootstrap/debootstrap.deb to another linux box, run ar xv debootstrap.deb, scp the 3 files back to your pogoplug. Comment out the line for ar xv debootstrap.deb in the installation script and rerun.

That only gets you so far. ar is needed to extract all of the debs later on. It seems like busybox doesn't have ar anymore. Maybe someone else can help.
