Image to share if anyone want it

EDIT: The "image" - well its actually a compressed filesystem and should be extracted to a ext3 formatted partition

If you dont use an atheros based wifi adaptor you may need to install the firmware for your device from the Debian Repos by issuing hte command

apt-get install firmware-yourdevicechipset
e.g. apt-get install firmware-ralink if you have ralink dongles

please feel free to test and use it and any and all comments and feedback is appreciated
user/password is root/root
wifi network is called ville and there is NO PASSWORD required to access. to add a password edit the line in /etc/rc.local

Hello all,

i thought it was time to come out of the shadows, thanks to you all for sharing of knowledge and the hardwork put in by everyone to make the hacking of the Pogoplug so easy!

With this in mind i have created and would like to share, if anyone is interested in using, my own image for the Pogoplug v4 and v4 Mobile. it is based on and expanded on the work of others, particularly from the following links. currently i boot from SD card.

Ths image is not security minded and was built with the intention of sharing media files with the younger relatives on a seperate wlan from the main one

http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,12096
http://blog.qnology.com/2014/07/hacking-pogoplug-v4-series-4-and-mobile.html
+ others which i apologise for having missed off as i cant find you link for reference.

Whats included is the following
firmware for Atheros chipset wifi cards
transmission daemon
webmin
midnight commander (cos im lazy!)
ntp time sync to uk
samba
nfs
create_ap (launched via rclocal script to create natd wireless access point -> dhcp client eth0
file sysem checking for each boot enabled from rc5

Whats not finished yet is to assing the poweroff command to the event driven button on the back of the device

Kind share my friend ... good work, sharing helps keep this forum alive :D

Be interested to know the make and model of SD cards, and filesystem you're using as I didn't have much luck with flash drives or SD cards ?

If you want to share a file, I think DropBox will do a public share ...

Cheers

Hi DC

I am using a couple of 8gb uSD with adaptors. The manufacturer is kingston and the SD card adaptor came with it as part of the deal. They are all class 10 and above.

The USB drives I use are either San disk or verbatim too. Usb2 drives. Not tried USB3 but I have a couple so will try when I get a chance.

The file system I favour is ext3. I use gparted to clear all file system into and create a msdos partition then format to ext3 and manually transfer the extracted roots across.

It was a long winded way of doing it. But. I was messing around with other stuff at the time and dipped in and out as I had a spare 5

I will look into the dropbox public share and upload there.

I might then have another play with the stack of SD cards I have here at some point ... good to know :D

Dropbox share would get your build out there and save people some time building their own system ...

And don't worry about long winded, I'm a master of it ... what works, works in the end ...

Cheers

.....something i forgot.....

Whenever i user gparted, i set the boot flag on the device im playing with.

Whether it makes a difference i can't be certain as setting this flag is one of my "habits".

Boot process is still one of the grey areas for my level of experience ... so I don't know either ... although I suspect it's not needed ... my assumption is that uboot looks for the ext3/ext2 partition, mounts it and then looks in /boot for the kernel and pre-start images, then loads them, gets kernel running and basic linux services, then loads the full OS out of the /bin /usr /etc, etc folders ... my rootfs's are all labeled "rootfs" as per instructions on this forum ...

I tend to boot a laptop with a live distro to do my partitioning (sfdisk is hard work on command line) ... gparted on a live will copy/duplicate partitions, resize and so on ... all through the UI :D

Cheers
