Hi has anyone tried to setup the pogoplugs as cluster servers?

any thoughts comments, experiences, guides, gotchas REALLY appreciated.

i have
2 @ pogopro
2 @ pogo V2
2 @ pogov4

would be an interesting use of the devices.......

Gravelrash,

This is a nice writeup:

I've been runing a cluster of Pogos with nfsroot on a GoFlex Net SATA for about a year now. All connected with Gbit Ethernet. It's best to run NFS V3 with these Pogos, easier to make it work.

Hey Bodhi, sorry if I'm still asking noob questions, but that's life, learning takes time !

I'm assuming you're booting with a NFS attached file system from the link given ... are you doing any process migration and using the compute power pooled somehow, and if so it'd be interesting to know how your doing it ?

I looked into the Beowulf type setups and virtualisation for pooling hardware with an aim of making a more powerful computer out of several. My conclusion was it's not all that simple especially for GFN. Xen have a project for > arm5 provided the processor has virtualisation support ...

Using virtualisation to pool resources seems to give the possibility of running ordinary application with the virtualisation abstracting what's happening with process migration etc from "the user" ...

Beowulf type setup seemed to require applications to be specially written, or at the very least a lot of thought put into migrating processes from one physical machine to another.

Anyway, probably seemingly like a noob (which I don't care, if you don't ask), but interested to know your thoughts and experiences :D

Cheers

@Don,

I've been using the Pogos cluster mostly as compile farm for home use. As far as other distributed processing researches using these, I'm afraid that I can't discuss.
