A few good questions: XFCE, Env.txt, Logitech Media Server, kodi, network share config

Posted by notoneofmyseeds
I'm trying to follow the guide here: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,21784

I hope that by following that guide, to install xfce desktop, it will save me from mistakes with a text editor, as stuff will be more visual. Can someone please confirm. I need this to configure SAMBA, minidlna, etc. More on this later.

Back to the XFCE question. I currently have USB, and will soon move everything to ssd.

So, I'm modifying this script to activate zswap and then latter set swappiness:
These 4 examples are only to demonstrate the syntax in uEnv.txt (they might or might not apply to your current settings):

- Load appropriate DTB file for the kernel to run GoFlex Net box.
- Use only USB drives for kernel and rootfs during booting
- Use SD card, USB and SATA for booting. The kernel and rootfs search order is as they are appeared on the list: mmc, usb, ide.
- Define that there are 8 storage devices (i.e. disk partitions).

cat /boot/uEnv.txt

dtb_file=/boot/dts/kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb
devices=usb
devices=mmc usb ide
disks=0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7

What should I put in the last section; devices, since I will be using a ssd. The ssd will be installed in an external case and connected to the pogo via USB. I will be doing the move before creating this file.

I have and need to configure Samba, nfs server, minidlna, and I expect installing xfce will save me some hassle.

As well, anyone with ideas to install Logitech Media Server, who can share their install procedure. I have downloaded 7.9, but don't know how to install it off my linux box into the pogo.

As well, any tips on configuring the other listed tools; nfs server, minidlna. I saw and have downloaded bohdi's SAMBA config file and will be using that.

Will KODI work well on a pink pogo; anyone here tried?

Finally, my data will need to be shared from an external enclosure via network, not USB. Ideas on configuring that would be great.

Thanks a lot.

On a Pogo E02, the only device is USB. So:

fw_setenv devices 'usb'

and remove this from uEnv.txt:
dtb_file=/boot/dts/kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb

KODI needs a box with a display and much more CPU power and more memory . So the answer is don't try.

If somebody post an NFS tutorial in a new topic, I will help polish it.

Thanks for your comments on KODI. I'd think lots of folks here use their pogo for serving media, and had hoped for lots more responses on the media serving questions. Oh, well.

Here's my dts file output below, as I can't find "uEnv.txt." But I have issued, successfully,

 fw_setenv devices 'usb'

My pogo is this: "kirkwood-pogo_e02.dtb."

root@debian:/boot/dts# ls -a

No. I thought you want to install KODI on Pogoplug, in that case is NOT worth trying.

But to serve media files from the Pogo to another box running KODI then it is perfectly fine. It is actually one of the main reasons why we want to hack Pogo to run latest Debian Linux as a NAS.

Thanks a lot. But can I ask how you serve video files from your pogo to clients, please? I know SAMBA is an option, but my client will not accept such files.

What files can it accept? NFS or AFS (Apple)?
