Should i follow these steps?
- set up to boot USB rootfs first,
- adjust mtdparts to be same as above
- boot this USB rootfs successfully
- verify that the mtds definition are correct.
- flash new u-boot and its default envs images.

Look for mkimage binary:
find /media/sdb1/ mkimage

Connect serial console, and we can adjust the mtdparts definition in u-boot console.

Interrupt serial console and

setenv mtdparts  'mtdparts=41000000.nand:14m(boot),-(data)'

and then let it boot:
boot

Affer booting into Debian,

cat /proc/mtd
Expected output

dev:    size   erasesize  name
mtd0: 00e00000 00020000 "boot"
mtd1: 07200000 00020000 "data"


If you see the expected output, then you can flash new u-boot.

Important: don't save the envs in serial console, until after you can boot into Dedian and see the mtd layout as shown above.

When you type any key on the keyboard, e.g. <Enter>, you will interrupt u-boot, and will be present with a u-boot prompt. Such as this

OX820>

This is the Linux prompt (way past u-boot execution):

Bootdelay was set to 1 second. So you might have missed it. To interrupt it, pound on the keyboard real quick when you see the u-boot banner.

Are you sure your serial console is working? i.e. you can send something, not just only receving the output.

I see now this u-boot version uses a misleading prompt :) It is a very bad practice to use a similar prompt as a Linux shell for u-boot like this

I use tftpd to boot into usb Debian rootfs. Then i flash the new U-boot. Then i flash the new kernel ,then reboot
