Housing for 4 (or more?) SATA discs?
January 16, 2017 06:56AM
Hi

I am looking for a housing for 4 or more 3.5 sata discs (2 X WD purple, 5TB and one 1TB at the moment).

It should have usb 3 out, preferably east / sata as well.

I don't need any raid stuff, as I will use snap raid and mergers for these discs.

At the moment I am using separate USB 3 (and USB 2) housings and a USB hub, but would .liuke to consolidate this setup.

Any suggestions and experiences? Or should I go another route?

Thanks,

Rainer

Is this a good example of what you're looking for? I've seen them way cheaper, but pulled this up to check with you.

What are you using to power them?

Thanks - I want to connect it via USB 3 port at the moment (later via sata to my GoFlex Net) so that one would not work - but good to know.

I am looking for something like this but preferably cheaper.

Rainer,

Look for Rosewill enclosure at Newegg, I think it is cheaper.

Any experiences with these type of enclosures? I read hdd killing stories (several) on amazon reviews of the HornetTek bays. So I want to know: are they working? Reliably? I don't feel like putting my hdd with data into enclosures which have a habit of eating data...

If you had the budget, what about this GTech Hardware RAID 8-Bay Thunderbolt 2 Storage Solution $2,899.95 - $400.95 (today's 1/23/17 promo code: 5585988) = $2,499.00 + Free S/H. I believe you can disable the RAID function as you wish.

Looks nice - but if I would have the funds, I would build this NAS
