There was a massive DDoS attack on the server provider host in Atlanta.

I wonder what the motive is behind it - there's nothing here that steps on anyone's toes.

Even stranger is how 4K Video Downloader is fetching perfect HQ videos for me when they used to break. Internet traffic must be whacked tonight. But I suppose, Florida and the eastern seaboard probably affected by the hurricane, rest of the US camping for Labor Day weekend, everything cray cray. Not the supercomputer Cray either...

It is not this site particularly at all. The forum is hosted by commercial provider servers in Atlanta. Their servers have been under DDoS attack most of Saturday.

Perhaps someone is practicing for their real DDoS attack somewhere else later.

Interesting note: Arch Linux ARM was affected the same way this site was by the DDoS. Both IP addresses must be somewhere in the DDoS IP address range!

I never heard of a DDoS IP address range, but yeah that makes sense.

With the move by more organisations and public instituitions going "cloud", AWS etc, it "makes more sense" to perform an IP address block attack. if you were to want to attempt to take some service or other offline.

On a serious note, I think it's inevitable, one of these days the power grid will go off and same with Internet. Power grid bounces back and Internet becomes so toxic it's not habitable. This would leave neighborhood and area LANs keeping what's left together, and beyond that probably cell stuff. Bitcoin 2.0 lol

I feel strongly that in the event of a national emergency the power grid would be back up ASAP (or power would be available), so to whom it may concern, I think small clusters of neighborhood servers (wireless) could significantly help. Even now I'd setup a primitive system if I knew what I was doing.

In the meantime I collect routers and little computers!

* Just to be clear, my vision of alternate networking is just for tens of households at a time. If they linked from one neighborhood to another, that's where it gets interesting, slow and sadly, vulnerable.

Though I got a 404 page not found message, that kind of brainstorming got me to try a new topic about a doomsday neighborhood server. I can't put my finger on it but it just seems with the tiny computers specialized here, the next step up is using them to repackage what I suspect are neglected opportunities with Local Area Networks.
