GlobalScale Technologies the originator of the SheevaPlug from which the PogoPlug and similar devices evolved is running a Kickstarter campaign for a 64bit possible successor! Personally, I am not an early adopter, so wouldn't jump into bandwagon. Also, I noticed it is only a dual-core system.

This thing looks awesome! I've put myself on the patiently waiting list! For $40.00, this looks pretty much untouchable as a "do it all ARM board" with a powerful dual core processor, min 512MB ram, SATA ll, USB3, 2 extra Gbit LAN connectors, mPCIe expansion, etc.

I've read (going off memory) that most current SBC ARM boards / processors do not support native SATA. Some of the ones that do support SATA (are doing so through USB?) that is not as efficient as if properly implemented. ie: bananna pi.

Is this about Native Command Queuing (NCQ) or some other standard?

Anyone know the actual facts on this and does this board have proper SATA implementation?

With as much processor and memory "horsepower" this board has compared to the pogo's, would it even be a spec to consider for overall performance with a hdd attached?

As near as I can tell, it looks like they've made/making deliveries for the pledges in Nov this year, early bird deliveries in Jan, and regular orders in March. Also looks like you can pre-order.

So anyone ordered this? Its available on Amazon for $49 + free shipping. Comes without power adapter or prebuilt sdcard.

I'm only interested in the 1GB version since the 2GB is too costly for me.
Was looking at their forums for any drawbacks or the amount of support people got and it didn't look nice. SDCard image from their site fails to load for a lot of people. In the specs it written that the device can power from usb port. Many have said the board does not power up from usb and the 12V dc adapter is required. Saw specs for adapter and no mention of wattage required. Just 12V dc adapter with barrel specs. Maybe they're using laptop dc adapter.

Debian support coming in future according to them.

Globalscale is notorious for this. They put out an initial image and then subsequently abandon it even if it is half baked......in fact if you click on the support / image links at Globalscale's website, more than half don't work anymore or if they do work, it's for Lenny or maybe Wheezy. I have a Smile plug which ran Arch Linux on it and that effort (i.e. keeping it updated) has been abandoned by both Globalscale and Arch.

When you buy Globalscale you have to do it realizing if it weren't for the work of others, the boards would have no following whatsoever. Fortunately Marvell has broad support in mainline Debian so most likely you can figure out a way to get it to run most flavors of Debian. Maybe Armbian will put out an image for it if GS is lucky.

I was waiting for the 2GB version and then start building kernel for it.

And looks like it has started shipping. But what a rip off! shipping from Globalscales is like 20% of the cost of the board :))

I received my 2GB unit from the KickStarter campaign about 2 weeks ago, but I've been busy with other life issues so haven't had a chance to even hook it up. I'll be on vacation for the next 2 weeks so it will be some time before I get around to doing anything with mine. However, if you check the Armbian Work in Progress link at https://www.armbian.com/work-in-progress/ you will see that they have already begun work and there is even an image - https://dl.armbian.com/espressobin/Ubuntu_xenial_default_nightly.7z available!

@bodhi: Perhaps, this Marvell SMILE Plug is what you asked?
I bricked uboot on the Smileplug attempting to get it to load Debian. As it has Armada
SOC, I could not find a kwb that I could kwboot with. It requires DdR3 training during initialization of uboot so you have to use later versions of kwboot to even attempt. Globalscale cannot supply kwb for this device and wants 41 dollars to solder new SPI chip. Not worth it IMHO.

There are quite a few Armada SoC u-boots. There might be one that will boot this box with kwboot. Most latest Armada u-boot that are floating around or in mainline have DDR3 training.

I've built the latest kwboot binary from u-boot-master recently.
