2 Nearly new POGO-V4-A1-01 need new home
November 29, 2016 12:01PM
I came across an article about re-purposing PogoPlugs while researching another topic a few weeks ago. I had a project in my queue that could use a small headless Debian server, and this seemed like an inexpensive start for some experience with ARM Linux. I read some articles here and at qnology.com, but missed Leggomyeggo's post in Off-Topic about root SSH access - no longer a software only task. While I could shop for or get access to a decent soldering station, and get some connectors, hook up a serial port, etc, this is significant project creep vs. what I really want to accomplish.

So, one is still in the original box, and one has been out long enough to phone home and for me to observe that it only answers to port 80, not port 443; the pogoplug web site no longer offers the 'enable ssh' option. It will go back in the original box, but some of the bags will be missing.

You can have them both for the price of shipping in the US only, $13.45. (Priority Mail flat rate box. Not negotiable, that is the easiest thing, and the alternative is that the systems go to electronics recycling, and I keep the cables).

Let me know.

Are these the mobile or the ones with sata connector on top? I would be interested in them if they have sata.

I already have a few mobiles, so wouldn't in that case.

I hear you with project creep. I bought a soldering kit, a few USB to ttl adaptors, cable adaptors/connectors, etc... More $ invested in the peripherals the the ARM hardware itself, but I still consider it a very inexpensive hobby.

No SATA. 1 USB connector. I thought the part number would be definitive, but my ignorance may be showing. Blue logo.

Hm, went looking for pictures, and I see that Adorama claims to have them back in stock at $5.99, free shipping. I don't know why you wouldn't order from them instead of paying to ship these.

Yea for the mobiles it wouldn't make much sense. I already have 2 mobiles and don't need anymore. If you would have had the sata versions, it would have been a great deal. The v4 sata version is currently $19.95 each at Adorama.

I'm not sure how to distinguish the v4's from the model numbers.

JeffS,

If not sure, look at the LED light color. One is Blue and the other is Red. And the 2 USB 3.0 ports in the back on the Pogo V4.

This is not a bad price with SATA and USB 3.0.

OTOH, The V4 is quite under power at 800Mhz. However, you can overclock it to 1 Ghz.

Add SATA DIY for Pogoplug Mobile - can't remember where I got this (attachment), from Arch forum or here. It's very likely I'll add SATA to mine but no hurry and I'll wait for a soldering iron with a needle-esque tip. If so I'll use my favorite cheap adapter to make it work with either 2.5" or 3.5".

Actually you only need the serial module converter (< $US 3). And 3 jumper wire (< $US 1).

Use the shirt pins to temporarily connect the 3 wires to the solder buttons.
