I don't know if this ASRock AM1H-ITX AM1 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 HDMI Mini ITX AMD Motherboard (US $48.99 + US $1.99 S/H - US $30 rebate = US $20.98) is any good deal or not from NewEgg, but just wanted to pass along for anyone here to grab.

Here, you can find some buyers discussion on slickdeals about this product.

That's valuable, even at that price. If I still had a bank account tied to PayPal I'd have found a way to raise the cash.

The onboard miniPCIE slot, and versatile CPU, dual power possibilities (19v power supplies are every thrift store even) - great bargain me thinks. USB 3.0, SATA 6gbps... some measure of ESD protection... on the surface this looks so good I'd easilly buy one and a spare if I had the jing.

But some of this stuff is only at NewEgg, and they only ship if you've got a bank account linked to PayPal, which I used to but my Credit Union froze a payment I made for an entire long Holiday weekend to check that someone wasn't pilfering my account. So I re-ordered my downloadable software and closed the account. Now NewEgg says "must have verified address". Funny I've lived here 25 years. Doh. Then you look at NewEgg's logo and it's eggs that look like 666 anyway, so i figure Satan.Inc doesn't want my business, then uh.. I dunno. Buy a bag or something instead.

:) call and talk to them. NewEgg is the best, you should give them another chance. They are just being very careful with credit/charge/account ...etc

That's a great idea. In the meantime Bodhi, another thanks to you for simply mentioning eBay a while back. Until I tried paying with PayPal I thought everyone blacklisted me, but have made 50 little orders in that time. Silver linings rock. I'll contact NewEgg Monday and see if it can be sorted.

Paypal is very convenient. But I avoid at all cost to link my bank account to it. I link my credit card instead, so I'll have a large company dealing with them if things ever go the wrong way (people used to report problem, perhaps it is better now but who knows).

I think CVS and/or some convenient stores allow one to add cash to a PayPal account for some fees.

Many stores around here allow you to add cash to your PayPal. It's $4.00 whether you buy a new card or add to your existing, and it's a minimum of $20 you can add. Meaning if I'm broke and I want to get the USB 3.0 mpcie card at $10, it's a minimum $24.00 to add $20.00. That sounds harsh, but most of the time I'm getting 80% off for the same goods I'd buy here at a Wal Mart or Menards or some mega company that doesn't reflect my values anyway.

See, when your Paypal account is linked to your credit card or bank account they have a term for it. It's called... "address confirmation". It's a false and whitewashed terminology.

NewEgg is one of the companies that, when you place an order, they robo PayPal and ask "is there address confirmation?" and because no bank account is linked to my PayPal account, the answer that comes back to NewEgg is, "no". Never mind the money is already IN Paypal for NewEgg to access, but they don't do it the debit way. They have their reasons, my Stockholm syndrome tells me.

I'm trying my hardest to get one last hard drive in the near future (making it three new internals lately), and then it's back to "normal", couple little eBay orders a month until I'm on solid ground employment-wise. Hard drives and flash I'd most rather get from local Best Buy.

Thanks again you guys for helping me make downtime another step forward :-) The finest of Holiday seasons to you all!

Yes and the fees can be very expensive. The other option and I don't know if there is a fee or not, is to find a friend who also has a (verified) PayPal account to transfer money to your account and then pay your friend in cash.

That PayPal address confirmation can be very obnoxious. It asks for a phone number, a utility bill, etc.

I don't have a problem paying NewEgg with PayPal that I have my credit card linked to it (if that answers to your above remark).
