Orange PI is good enough for Debian

My pogoplug and dockstar run very slow, and took long time while upgrading, a couple of months ago, bought orange pi PC with US$15 from Aliexpress.com, official image doesn't work well, but image from ARMBIAN.COM is great.

Orange Pi PC with AllWinner H3 Quad-core Cortex-A7 cpu and 1GB DDR3 SDRAM, and HDMI, I know Raspberry PI seems more powerful than this one, but the price is only 40% of raspberry 3, so I decide to have a try, very satisfied Runing faster as server, its price can beat any PI

Wasted much time on pogoplug and dockstar. I need it as server, don't need HDMI, so I will try their orange pi zero with $8.99, but less memory: 512MB

Anyone also tried orange pi? any interesting application?

Looked at these a few years ago but read quite a few bad reviews that I passed

The one in my hand is absolutely Orange PI PC with HDMI and 1GB ram, I will try Orange Pi one which doesn't have video output, also less memory :512MB

Rpi zero doesn't have network jack, CPU is single core

Kaboom, the brainstorm when I saw this expansion board that fits over Pis.

Personally I have previous projects to complete, but the future looks bright with one or two of these expansion boards laying around.

I also passed this product before due to same reason, negative reviews:most about running desktop or graphic apps slow, not good as Raspberry pi,lack of official support, I don't need desktop and run graphic apps. As server, it works well till now. only $15 or $8.99, why not?

they also have other products with wifi, g network, 64-bit cpu or emmc for options.

That is a SATA expansion board that can be added to an oPi through a USBx port? If so, one may just contemplate for a much inexpensive USB3SATA case (which sometimes I saw as low as US $3 from some sellers @AliExpress).

When looking at any USB to SATA expansion board pay close attention to the chipset used as anything using the Genesis Logic GL830 is going to be complete crap.

for my two cents worth.... i have several of the OPi range and find them to be capable devices for teh money... i dont use the images from the OPi homesite, but prefer to use the ARMBIAN ones...

Ray, there's a USB 3.0 mpcie card that's giving us trouble, and I believe what is in the list as Genesis Logic, which was advertised as based on Renesas D720202 chipset

From my perspective it does seem like crap. Bodhi of course is much more qualified than I to make a judgment call, but as for me it's enough to stay away from Genesis Logic if I can help it.

Joey, I'd be interested in what chip is actually on the troublesome USB 3.0 mpcie card. The GL830 is a USB 2.0 to SATA bridge chip that has been noted as having poor performance and other issues. Search the Armbian forums for details. It could be that they also have a PCIe to USB 3.0 bridge chip that also has performance issues.
