Hi,
I've got a DPF New Black Mini 2,4 " which seems to be not supported:
Detecting & reading dpf flash...
Opening generic SCSI device '/dev/sg2'
Manufacturer: Winbond
Size : 2 MB
Reading 200000 bytes...
Flash written to file 'identify.out/full.bin'.

Looking for firmware.............: Found (coby, 240x320 px).
Looking for Openwin..............: Found.
Looking for LcdIniTbl............: Found.
Looking for known signatures.....: None.
Looking for known version info...: None.

Sorry, no matching dpf found.
I tried all portrait DPF FWs but no luck. Only flashing with 'linkdelight_black_portrait_2.bin' brought a partially success - screen with colorfull vertical stripes.
I attached the full.bin.
Many thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Superelchi,

This is my DPF:link to amazon offer

ProgSPI doesn`t detect anything if I press reset and menu in the described way.

Pythons identify says: looking for firmware........not found - this is no known firmware

The windows Drive-Symbol of the Device is called DPFMate and this is what I found in the file StartInfoUnicode:

Without a dump of the original fw there is nothing I can do.
You have to be a registered member of this forum if you want attach a file. Or upload it somewhere else (Dropbox/Mediafire/Freakshare,...) and post a link.

Thank you for the invitation, now I`m registered.

I will attach the dump now.
With the windows-version of python I have, I can only dump the first 1mb.
I hope this is enough.

Hi quincy,

I had a look at your dump. Dosen't look very promising. :-(
As identify.py said - this is no known firmware. It doesn't have the header and jumptables from the Buildwin SDK. I'm not even sure if your dpf uses an AX206.
Could you open it and post a picture of the pcb?

Thank you Superelchi,

here are the pictures.

Maybe I should start thinking about the pictures I`m going to upload to my new tiny little Photoframe :-)

Bad news: does not look like this is an AX206 dpf.
Even ProgSPI rejects the firmware dump as invalid.
So: not hackable with dpf-ax.

Sorry,

Hello,

I stumbled on this dpf on dinodirect. Got them for about $4 on sale. Today I tried to flash one of them, unfortunately I got some "Resource temporarily unavailable" errors just after message "Erasing flash", so now this DPF is no more than a small paperweight. Anyway, I was able to dump the firmware (please see attached).

messages from identify.py:
Looking for firmware.............: Found (buildwin, 320x240 px).
Looking for Openwin..............: Found.
Looking for LcdIniTbl............: Found.
Looking for backlight & contrast.: Found, Found.
Looking for known signatures.....: None.

Sorry, no matching dpf found.

But the following models have partial signature matches: focal_custom focal_cust
om_2
One of these firmwares MAY work for your dpf.

./detect.py usb0 :

Found AX206 DPF (bootloader)
Manufacturer: Apple
Size : 1 MB

ProgSPI:
Flash info is Cmd-9f: ID:0xc84014c8
Flash info is Cmd-ab: ID:0x13131313
Flash info is Cmd-90: ID:0xc813c813
Can't find the flash info, please add it's info to flash library according to flash ID.

(of course any help with unbricking this frame will be greatly appreciated!)

@kodi

Good price for a 320x240 dpf!
Try attached fw. Please see if the brightness adjustment works correctly. Another one with a weird brightness control routine...

"Resource temporarily unavailable" errors are common if your USB cable is bad or there are some problems with the USB port. There is no damage done. Just reflash the dpf. Did you use the USB cable that came with the dpf? They are known to be crap. Try a better cable/another USB port/another PC.

Re: dpf-ax: unsupported dpf - requests

Thank you for your help anyway.

So they put pcbs with a completely different processor into the same shell, what makes it a little more difficult to find a DPF which will definetly work.

I wonder where I can buy one now. I´m from Germany and I would need an offer with an affordable price including shipping.

Maybe Kodi can post a link?

No problem.
http://www.dinodirect.com/2-4-LCD-16MB-Digital-Photo-Frame-White.htm

They usually have pretty expensive stuff compared to other vendors, but they key with this site is they have sales almost every week. Regular price for my frames was $15, on sale for $9 and got $5 voucher for recommending another person (my other email). $4 including shipping :)

BTW: I got the lcd4linux working, found nice theme (author was Olderzeus if I'm not mistaken) and now I'm in the process of editing images in the theme. Looks awesome:

btw: ax206term works as well

Yea, nice theme.
Would you mind sharing your lcd4linux.conf?
Still looking for some some good confs to include in dpf-ax (320x240, 240x320 and 128x128.) The current confs are only a "proof of concept" and really boring...

My theme is not finished yet - still have some quirks to iron them out, but here is the link to the original theme:
http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=150013&uk=1107847486#dir/path=%2FIomega%C2%AE%20Home%20Media%20Network%20Hard%20Drive%2C%20Cloud%20Edition%2FDPF%20on%20Debian

Look for the file mytheme.20130521.tgz - there is full desription inside (in Chinese, but Google Translator makes pretty ok translation to English).

If you have any problem, repacked to tar.bz2 theme is in the attachment. lcd4linux.conf is included in that file as well.

Hi!, I'm here.

Because mytheme is custom in chinese and show aqi data for Beijing, so I'm not release it in here.
I'm very happy if someone can improvement it to apply general.

In desription, I missed something inclue howto add script to system cron, and package deppend...

Since using Google translate, my English is worse than before.

What hw/distri?

Short howto for Debian / Ubuntu / Mint:

Put dpf in bootloader-mode: press & hold RESET, press MENU, release RESET, release MENU.
If everything went well, look for an entry in syslog like:
generic-usb 0003:1908:3318.0007: hiddev0,hidraw5: USB HID v2.01 Device [BUILDWIN BL206v1.0.0] on usb-0000:00:1a.0-1.6/input0
Than
cd tools
sudo ./hiddetach
sudo ./restore.py ../../fw_delightdigi_3.bin -f

So I will add delightdigi_3 to the list of working dpfs.
