Hello, Got debian installed on a USB drive and working fine, thanks Jeff! My next step is to back it up to another USB drive. This almost worked :-). I did (from the command line, on my macintosh): dd of=/dev/disk2s1 if=disk.img bs=1024 to get the image off. I picked Debian because it already had a package I wanted set up. It's worth looking at the package lists for each distribution, to see if there is something you need. And, while I've been using Linux & Unix for decades, I found the Debian painless... Jeff has REALLY put together a gold-mine here, and with his code! THANKS!by yachris - Debian

Much appreciated, particularly now that my PogoPlug is running properly :-) I set up netconsole, as above, and now I want to stop it from doing the netconsole thing -- this machine is going to be a firewall, so I'm paranoid about what's going on on the net.
