Is the RAM faster in the v4? I'm certain the Application menu over RDP is quicker and no mini-pausing like the E02. On that one admittedly flimsy bit of evidence, I knew I should have done the kind of testing Leggo did when he found the v3 did more calculations than the E02. OH, NOW I UNDERSTAND... PNY's cheapest, slowest USB 2.0 stick has been running in the E02 for the last twoby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
The thing about Pogo v3, there's still that mpcie slot for those of use who don't need wireless. I even bought an mPCIe extender while back to run the ribbon out of the Pogoplug if need be. I see out there adapters that have built-in port multiplication but so far I'm only seeing SATA 3 such as this: I don't for one second think the bus is fast enough to support 6Gbps iby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I suspect you're having a mild chuckle saying that*, but yes, the top of USB 2.0s specs for file transfer across LAN is perfectly fine in my world. The top of Gigabit routing is even finer LOL A plan is formulating... Believe me I'd rather learn this the easy way now than futile troubleshooting later. There's still time to Pro and Con the most suitable home cloud. I know Sergeanter (the v4 overclock ninja) runs a 4-bay SATA RAID box off a v4 Pogoplug and that's half the reason I'm barking up that tree. It's taken almost two decades for me to fill a 1TB, spread out over the coby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I'd have replied hours ago but a too amazed at your foresight that must have gone into making u-boot, to process Bodhi! Really great timing to make that clear too, as this year looks to have the best deals on hard drives and cases etc maybe ever, all things considered. Maybe if it's true I've been here 11 months, maybe I can shoot for 1 year anniversary to complete a tough andby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Wow that's awesome. On the v4 Mobile it's possible to add SATA but there's no way I'd survive roughly 10 solders with my tools on hand. Not that $30 for a SATA -enabled v4 one is fully impossible but.. In theory (not trying to create more work for you Bodhi) the (conspicuously Oxnas) v3 Pro is a u-boot procedure away from the same? I've got two of those right here.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Hey, in situations such as a stock router with a USB port (I currently have 4) that lack 3rd-party firmware support, and none recognize Ext3, would formatting NTFS cluster sizes larger (on external drive) increase read/write speeds? I wish I had a spare external hard drive to format many partitions, of varying cluster sizes and find out. For me the focus is less on a dedicated Linux situationby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
Ah, I don't have an answer to the maximum disk partition sizes, but see if it's formatted "GPT" (GUID Partition) you can go over the otherwise 2TB limit of MBR. I don't know if Pogoplug deals with GUID in the first place let alone making an MBR that Pogo recognizes and have GUID partitions waiting for some Debian driver to recognize. @ habibie I couldn't findby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Pogoplug 4s have SATA port multiplication (hello Leggo!) and you can buy docks that have multiple bays. I've been seeing scorchingly low prices on dual bay units with an esata jack and USB (the cheaper ones 2.0). The limits I see is that it's 1TB per drive. They don't go into detail whether every format is the same, and I know Linux does neat tricks and thought to ask you.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I'd consider trying it, as the Pogoplugs I have usually have a backup USB stick in case something goes horribly wrong, but I'd also like to over-analyse this a bit, or weigh some pros and cons. From my years on Windows I can tell you right away NTFS runs not so great stock, but starting around Windows 7 they stopped time stamping every access and that led to much higher performance,by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Debian
you know what I forgot.. watt meter before and after clock changes. So, dug my Rosewill watt meter, and booting-up Pogo Mobile peaks at 4.2 watts, dips to 2.2w and settles in at 3.3w idle with only SDcard and gigabit connected. Add PNY USB 3.0 stick and it's 3.7 watts. Keep that and add Transmission running one torrent of LibreOffice and it goes between 3.8w and 4.7w. So that's thby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic

Just a file I've got to edit or what? Or if I took that dropbox file of yours Bodhi, and expanded it to fit into a blank SD card or blank USB stick, would that work (and if so what would the label be?) I'd do that in my more familiar Windows. Sorry I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer. I just want the light full green lolby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Pardon me if I veer off topic, but because the stick plugged into the v4 Mobile is from the E02, I still have remote desktop, and WOW this is snappier than even the E02! What I'm getting here is the most fluent desktop pogoplug yet. You guys are going to love the higher clocking. Netconsole should be on there but certainly not the hardware serial where you hook up TTL or TTY to USB. I've used up one of those solder points. Now if I were to aquire a couple Pogo v4_3's I'd definitly solder headers to use a proper serial and maybe even a switch to turn off the turbo. Realize where I'm at is four tangents away from the area I'm using this stuffby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Sure, how do I do that? Will it just show the current boot? As you know this Debian stick was from the E02 and updated last night. Especially if it's easy, I can post right away :-Dby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I did take a picture during first try - apologies it's 545 KB I must have forgotten to tell Photoshop to save for web. It's not that great but will show what worked here, next to the window with looking through bifocals. Yeah, can't wait to see your USB 3 and SATA speeds over Ethernet change drastically. If so, the rest of the v4_3's on the planet will probably sell out faby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
YES IT WORKS; 996.14 BogoMIPS with the 2.7K resistor, same result as the guy who went with 2.2K. Gents yes this is within your skill level, just bend the resistor beforehand, little tiny claw end, tinned, and alligator clip it in position. I'm all the more relieved it went into the case with nothing shorting out (underneath the circuit board is metal). My work is pretty ugly, two blby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I didn't short-out the box, but that's the best I can report. It's not as tight a spot as I'd previously imagined, and the bottom has more room to work a soldering iron, don't know why someone would do the top side. As Leggo (now properly credited, sorry about that) mentioned this isn't a job for low heat, in fact I was able to get too much low heat solder on, use aby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
It says 795.44 BogoMIPS. Is that a useful result? Pogo Mobile never turned fully green, and I'm sure some careful updating is in order. apt-get update says there's 17 MB incoming, so while I'm nuts to go this route, I'd be nuts not to as well. Why did the bear go over the mountain? To see what he could see. lolby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Too late, although I understand what you'e saying and it's going to stick - thanks a ton Bodhi... - I unplugged the SD card, plug in the benchmark 8GB Debian USB stick from the E02, and voila, didn't expect it to work, but it does! At least Transmission fires up when I change IPs proper to it. So I'd say one of the root things had gotten installed at Qui's. Sorry for aby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I'm using Putty on Mint Linux (ThinClient) to get to it, is there a substitute for WinSCP? I got as far as right before the part that isn't working. Sure looks interesting. And the Docker site has an easy walk-through tutorial first thing. Were you planning on running it from Debian off a USB stick? -update- I see the light. Have no fear, JoeyAlarm will kick this party into overdrive :-D I might be hopelessly poor, but even I have a dollar to buy the worst/notorious IT junk at Thrift shops just for the heatsinks, and if I can work out adhesive, this might prolong v4's life if it's really clocking 25% higher. -edit- yeah Leggo I thought a nudge would help, but after taking a look at other topics at the Aby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
That's a good sign, and I'm warming up to the idea of PNY after two months of using one of their cheapest USB sticks for torrents in the E02/Debian. I've only had one bad PNY stick out of a dozen in the past 2 years and it was acting suspicious from the first day, and Best Buy was great to replace it after warranty. -note- PNY USB 2.0 is usually slow and 3.0 is great actually, evenby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I still chuckle :-) As long as a few of us are configuring these from scratch, and I wouldn't rule out saving pennies for a SATA version if this pans out, thought I'd articulate Plan A: 1. Install Debian to SD Card 2. Install OpenWRT to NAND. I also might try an alternating configuration for the external hard drive, where maybe OpenWRT auto mounts anything plugged into it anby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Well that decision was made for me, I have one 2.7K metal film resistor in the archives. And I'm looking forward to see how that relates to that Arch guy's 25% increase with a 2.2K. The Pogo v4 is smaller than I'd imagined so it's going to be a very tight space. Not saying I can do it but I'll try my level best. So, on to Qui's tutorial after I find a blank USB stby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
