Up above i edited the MagPi availability map. They claim to add a cable bundle with subscription! Wow I'm a kid again. Other uses I conjure up are: 1. Head. A video USB plugin with video output for headless units. They sell those for what, $40 and Gravelrash noticed those for Pogoplug 2. Array. Why not a foot-long strip of slots to accommodate 4-25 of these and make a hefty computer in itby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Pretty sure there's no Networking, but maybe it's the winter we get another round of $5 computers like the Pogos last spring! Pretty nice to discover these at Menards. Mine were about $3.80 apiece and I got four for the time being. What's even cooler is, the adapters you can hook these into and make a custom switchboard of sorts. And to think they're replaceable one at a time should a problem arise. Furthermore you can use these on powerstrips with that have noise filtering in addition to spike protection.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic

For Transmission. I've discovered the joys of large ISOs (not Blu-Ray but 6-8GB) and find myself at an impasse where various sources have various answers. I see Debian has LFS but that could mean little file support! Since all my Pogo USB sticks are 8GB, I'd have to find a 16GB, copy an 8GB to it and resize, not a problem and I've done it before. Or maybe a better questionby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Oh.. I thought it meant a limit to an SD card you'd insert. I was able to get the yesterday version of Android to run live in VESA mode on a somewhat older HP dualcore laptop. Not a fan of the interface (and it went sideways after a while) but it looks like most of what I could ask for is there, not sure about efficient video playing. On thin Clients I really like SMPlayer, as it's thby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I wonder why the 32GB SD card limit, or if that's a FAT 32 spec? This is the kind of thing you'd want to boot OSs from the SD card, and have super lean & mean for pseudo ThinClient > server and another fat with a colorful holiday theme. Town & Country modes lol Not a bad score at all laprjns! So is this the kind of thing those little power battery stations are for, if theby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Thanks for the inspiration! Yeah my requirements aren't very diverse, but given a budget and choice, I'd go with a quadcore and at least 10" screen. Denied a budget and choice I'm going with whatever I can get my grubs on. eBay has drool-worthy new offerings like the QC 10" in the $70 range, shipped from the US. The next step in my journey is to get an inexpensive tablet(s) to interface with the NAS. Although there are insane deals Black Friday, traditionally I sleep in and don't have any jing anyway. But $30 mini tablets and such make this something to be aware of and plan accordingly. At this point it would be great to use a tablet to read eBooks, listen to music, or dive into a lot of video tby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
yeah routers take it down, but switches honor the traffic speed. So if a router says it has an internal switch that's good. And a Gigabit LAN to a switch with 100Mbps router, the switch part is vaguely comparable to an Interstate highway with a ramp leading to a 25 Mph street (Welcome to Router Town). I'm not sure if packets get lost and recreated, or the packets bounce back and fortby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I had an idea, you can patent it if you feel like being richer than me, it's about LCD monitors. Why have one layer of LCD crystals? Why not two or three? More than once this past week I was reminded of car paintjobs and old paintings where they used thin layers to obtain a depth not possible otherwise. I know that too because one summer eons ago I worked as an auto body apprentice. Spraby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Wow - the reviews (at least Amazon) on this mince no words. They say it covers getting into trouble and not how to get back out. Says the software is Red Hat and has ill-functioning partition software. So two of these books are headed to the trash, maybe more. I'll definitely go over the main points and decide. So the question now is more about knowing when to throw away something thatby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Being a non-rich guy with temporary time on my hands, I'll occasionally stop by all the thrift stores in search of cheap computer parts and books. One of the newer ones, my last stop on the way home is a thrift store a church started running. So, little surprise I found a Linux Bible today LOL They were so overstocked they were giving away all the books you could haul out of there. I scorby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
It's still a good deal at $16, and I don't mind the D-Link firmware which (on my DIR-857) require a reboot most times you change anything. Another point of buying or denying would be, if the WAN connection lets the LAN traffic hum along at Gigabit if that WAN only offers 100Mbps (my DSL does that to me). Some routers take it all down to 100Mbps. My D-Link seems to have an internal Atherby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Yeah Qui's tutorial installed this in minutes. Really, really neat to look at. I haven't touched much, but I like what I'm touching. Big 'spects to Qui and Leggo :-)by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Oh-oh you didn't mention OpenWRT did you? I made it up LOL A search for VPN with OpenWRT got interesting results, so for now, is your OpenWRT installed? It boots to Debian sticks so even if we abandon this at least it's more fun fer free! I'm days away from wrapping-up some projects so I'll give it a week before proceeding and research in my spare time. -edit-by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
-edited TWICE- No, don't get it. For $50 elsewhere you can get one great(er) router that will accept OpenWRT and/or DD-WRT. It's your decision, and right now before Thanksgiving is that sweet spot for low prices between now and Black Friday week. Because whatever you get for $50 now, you'll get a spare for cheap down the road. Either way you're looking at pros and coby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
Up until a couple years ago 100Mbit was okay on my home network. This is because I didn't know better. My Gigabit network adapters were connected to a router that was 100MBit, and even when upgrading to Gigagit (a Rosewill I still like) router my speeds were still 100Mbit because one connection was 100Mbit, which slowed everything. So I get a Gigabit switch. Yes the computers blaze and iby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
I've got OpenWRT on one, but you know my skill level. Since that's flashed to NAND I can't Guinea pig dangerous tests, but if there's enough interest I could turn my attention to configuration. There's an extremely efficient use of RAM with openWRT, and the GUI makes you want to go nuts with possibilities. What did you have on mind for application? Super cool thanks a million! That ought to be enough to set things in motion, save pennies for a couple of 2-TB drives and get a bulletproof home cloud going for the holidays. I'd imagine another benefit of a Pogoplug, is if a person uses an uninteruptible power supply, it'll probably run 24 hours or something LOL - i just bring that up because there's used ones at thrift storeby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - uBoot
Did I miss a drive-by or something? Thanks for cleanup if that's the case.by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - Off-Topic
There's a lot of things you can try, this I know. If that were mine, I'd go with: 1. Switch power supplies - occasionally drives click because power supply slouching 2. Wrap the hard drive in plastic, place in freezer for an hour or two (heck, overnight), defrost and try again. I dunno, it's rare you really lose a drive without being able to recover everything. With no copy of Debian on the SATA, it won't boot up at the USB stick. With SATA unplugged it's fine, then turn on the power to the SATA and it fdisks partition results. So if the hard drive is all logical (no OS on it) and mounted into fstab, it should boot to USB and have optional SATA storage right? The rest is probably fun but for me this step is a stickler. I don't mean to sound goofy here, but I've still got the 2nd configuration up, and it did boot to SATA (with the USB stick). It crackled booting up when it caught on and i went so far as to pull the USB stick (way after it was settled-in, not like above when it was first crackle) and try apps on the SATA drive. OK i also tried taking the same USB stick and SATA drive and plugging them into spare Pogoplug3 that had OpenWRT flashed to NAND, and same result, it booted to the SATA with Debian. Sweet!by JoeyPogoPlugE02 - uBoot
Something worked! Almost certainly bodhi's instructs one message back which said: cd /boot cp -a uboot.2013.10-tld-5.ox820.environment uEnv.txt The Debian partition on the USB stick is an identical copy of the one on the SATA hard drive. But I wasn't sure which one took hold of the new way. Luckily it must have been the USB stick because I copied that again and that's hoby JoeyPogoPlugE02 - uBoot
I'm probably real close but wherever i can do something in Windows, it's a safer deal for sure. So far I've downloaded the dropbox Tar, copied the tar and extracted contents to /tmp using WinSCP I've tried the other codes and they work, there's no bad blocks, confident to start flashing... get here... 5.
