Hello! I have an old Iomega ix2 -ng. I decided to install Debian on it, following the instructions of the respected Bodhi. Prepared a flash drive, inserted, launched. But when the kernel boot phase comes in, everything freezes, the indicator goes out.
Can someone help me?

Hi, as these units have the old uboot you need to append the dtb to the kernel. These are the instructions under '4b' in Bodhi's guide;
4b. Boot with DTB file embedded in the kernel image (no U-Boot envs changes are needed if your system already booting on USB or HDD). Again, this step 4b is for stock U-Boot only.
Please replace kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb below with the correct DTB name for your box.
Generate the uImage and uInitrd (the kernel files vmlinuz-5.6.5-kirkwood-tld-1 and initrd.img-5.6.5-kirkwood-tld-1 were generated by dpkg in Step 3):
Use the IX2 dtb instead of the goflex and it should boot without issue.
4b. Boot with DTB file embedded in the kernel image (no U-Boot envs changes are needed if your system already booting on USB or HDD). Again, this step 4b is for stock U-Boot only.

Good idea! you can either:
- Boot with USB, prepare the HDD and then run rsync to copy all the files over.
- Bringthe USB drive to another Linux computer, and then backup to a tarball, bring it back and restore to the HDD (I would do this, since it will create a backup for the USB rootfs that you can keep to recreate it again).

- Boot with USB, prepare the HDD and then run rsync to copy all the files over.
- Bringthe USB drive to another Linux computer, and then backup to a tarball, bring it back and restore to the HDD (I would do this, since it will create a backup for the USB rootfs that you can keep to recreate it again).

Hello! I booted the system from a usb flash drive. deleted old partitions. Created a new formatted boot partition in ext 2.
Then the
Reboot

copied the rootfs section.

It is strange that your serial console output was stopped until 8 seconds into the boot. Information from those 8 seconds are quite valuable!
I think your HDD rootfs is not good. But before recreating it, let's try booting agai none more time.
Note: at this point after you interrupt serial console, the USB drive should be unplugged. Only the HDD rootfs is pugged in.

OK. So now it is time to recreate your rootfs. Your rsync probably did not pick up all the necessary files.
And remember that your should use a single EXT3 partition on the HDD.
Basically, bring your USB to another box, create the tarball. Copy that tarball to the USB rootfs itself. Boot with USB, and then restore the tarball to the HDD, while logging in as root.

If you HDD is large, then partition it now to your liking. The first partition should be the rootfs, label it as rootfs, and it should be EXT3. And don't use swap partition, use a swap file (create it after booted successfully).
The single partition approach is to eliminate any potential problem in booting. But it is not absolutely required.
