GoFLex Home shutting down on boot?

I have a Seagate Freeagent GoFlex Home. I installed Debian using:

cd /tmp 
wget http://projects.doozan.com/debian/dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh 
chmod +x dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh 
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/sbin:/sbin 
./dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh

Everything appeared to work correctly during the install.

When I rebooted, the light flashed green for a while then went black (I'm assuming that means it shut down).
The device didn't show up on a broadcast ping.

When I tried switching off, removing the USB stick and switching on again, the light flashed green for 3 seconds then flashed amber after that.
Again, the device didn't show up on a broadcast ping.

I have a verbatim 8 GB USB stick with a 1GB linux partition, a 512MB swap partition, and the rest free space.

My desktop machine is an iMac with only 4 USB, 2 firewire, and 1 ethernet ports, there isn't a (RS-232/RS-422) serial port.
I'm running OSX 10.7.5 on my desktop.

So what do I need to do to get my GoFlex working?

Try log in to the router and see if it was ever assigned an IP address.

If you have run the GF Home with stock software before, what was the IP address? you could start the ping to that IP before powering up the GF Home to see if if it was actually briefly online and lost connection.

The next easy step to get it running is to use a rootfs that known to work with this uBoot version is Davy's NSA320 rootfs. Create a USB stick to boot with this rootfs. See this thread to download: http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,7806

Same thing happened.

What do I do once I get the cable?

Is there anything else I can try first?
Why won't it boot from the original OS, when the USB isn't attaced?

One important detail I forgot to mention:

Before trying the squeeze install, I tried the wheezy install, but it failed - FATAL: kernel too old. So I erased the root parrtition on my USB stick, and then did the squeeze install. I didn't do anything else, to revert changes made by the wheezy install script. Could it be a problem with uBoot versions?

It really does not matter about the stick was used for failed Wheezy installation, as long as you have erased all partitions and start from beginning when installing Squeeze.
Davy's NSA320 image should be created with dd command and that will wipe out old partition table anyway. You could try another USB stick (Sandisk is one of the most reliable).

Also, if you have the log while install Squeeze, pls post it here.

But what about, the mt0 partition, on the GoFlex itself? Did the failed attempt at instally wheezy, effect the uBoot installation?

No. At the point where wheezy installation failed, the new uBoot already installed on mtd0. That's how Jeff's script works. If uBoot installation had failed, you would have seen it.

OK I got it working using a new USB key and Davy's NSA320 rootfs. dd didn't work, but loop mounting and cp -a did.
