Dockstar stuck on boot
September 02, 2010 01:49PM
Hi,

i tried to set up Debian on my Dockstar following this Instructions.

Regertfully i got stuck:

Root-NFS: No NFS server available, giving up.
VFS: Unable to mount root fs via NFS, trying floppy.
VFS: Cannot open root device "sda1" or unknown-block(2,0)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option; here are the available partitions:
1f00 1024 mtdblock0 (driver?)
1f01 4096 mtdblock1 (driver?)
1f02 257024 mtdblock2 (driver?)
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(2,0)

[<c0008478>] (kernel_init+0x118/0x15c) from [<c002c3ec>] (kernel_thread_exit+0x0/0x8)

I don't seem to be able to boot from flash or usb.
Further problem is that i still have the pogoplug bootloader running, hence no usb support.

Can anyon help?

At which point of the tutorial did you get this Message?
Why NFS..the tutorial did tell me something about TFTP?
Why didnt you used the geat Installer from Jeff at jeff.doozan.com/debian ?
You could try to get a hint from the follwoing thread
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,243,243,quote=1
or
http://www.sheevaplug.de/forum/38-software/2381-bekomm-einfach-kein-debian-auf-den-dockstar.html?limit=10#2425 (german)

Can you please post the earlier portion of the kernel boot log? Does it say "initializing usb storage" or something equivalent? If so, double-check that your USB stick was correctly set up with 1 partition, formatted as ext2 or ext3 (not VFAT), or try preparing another USB stick and boot with that. The original u-boot should be OK for this, because you are loading the kernel via TFTP (which u-boot can handle), then the kernel takes care of reading the rootfs from USB.
