BINUTILS before installing Squeeze?

I've been playing with upgrading my Pro to Squeeze, using the GOGO script, but I get a failure in the DEBOOTSTRAP (IE: ar not found). I've seen another poster reference installing BINUTILS, but how does one install this on a stock Pogoplug? I've tried adding it into the 'extra packages' but it doesn't appear to be loaded before it is needed.
