Hi there,

I'm having a small problem with my pink Pogoplug V2 running Debian, my USB thumb drive seems to be broken. So I made serial cable and figured out, that there seems to be some file missing or damaged:

VFS: Mounted root (ext2 filesystem) on device 8:1.
Freeing init memory: 140K
/sbin/init: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libsepol.so.1: cannot rea d file data: Invalid argument

  1. Is there any way I can download the whole Debian OS and extract files from there to my new USB stick?
  2. Or is it possible to install a new debian installation by booting the pogopkug without the usb drive and running the install script again? Or will that brick my Pogoplug?

Thank you so much for your help!

Chris,

If you have installed UBoot and Debian on you Pink Pogoplug V2 with Jeff's script following this instruction:
http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/

Then you could reinstall without risking hosing UBoot. Jeff's script detects UBoot version and if it's what the script expects to see, it will skip it.

First try to reboot without the stick, see if you get back into Pogo OS. Once you there, follow the same instruction to insert the USB stick, fdisk it, ... and run debian squeeze installation. The same procedure. Note that it's important: ONLY if you've run Jeff's installation of UBoot and Debian, then doing it again is OK.

If you're not successful doing that, then the next step is to get a Debian rootfs (varkey hosts a rootfs, but I forgot the link). And extract it to the USB stick, and use that to reboot the system.

Or you could choose to try the rootfs approach first.

Ok, that worked very well. Thank you so much! BTW is there any good way to backup a running system? I currently use rsync for backupng up the files and plan on using dd to backup the entire system from time to time.
