GoFlex Home not booting

So I was trying to follow the guides on setting this up, it seems I have UBoot installed, but didn't get LInux setup properly. I have a serial connection set up and working, and I can get in that way, but I mostly have Windows, so I'd rather not have to set up a Linux desktop to reconfigure this. How can I either reset this to the original OS, or get Kirkwood installed? What would be my next steps?

OK, so update. I formatted a USB drive, unzipped the Debian-5.13.6-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 and tried booting, and it worked.

Since I have uBoot working and now Debian loading, should I just keep booting off of USB, or write to the HDD? Just looking to use this as a cheap NAS.

I would keep running USB rootfs, and take precaution to avoid wearing out the flash drive. Ideas here in the Wiki thread:

Create and use a swap file in the HDD. Making frequent rootfs backup. Put the HDD to sleep when it is not accessed. These topics are available in the Wiki thread too.

This is a very good and capable NAS. I run 2 of these as NAS for about 10 years. Still working fine serving media to the HTPC.
