Debian automatic Backup with "Back in Time" (Time Machine clone)

In order to have a convenient automatic data backup I wanted to have something similar to Time Machine from Apple Mac OS X.

The program Back in Time did a good job in the past on my Ubuntu 12.04 server, so I wanted to use it also on the Dockstar server in console mode with Debian 7 (wheezy).
At the Dockstar the backup media is another USB-Stick (4 GB).

It runs automatic with a cron job, with low priority. The first backup (snapshot) needs a while, because it copies all what you included.
Next time the snapshot saves only changed files, all other files get hard links. So, every snapshot looks like a full backup.

There is no parameter editor for the console. The config file was setup with the GUI under Ubuntu 12.04 and copied to the Debian installation.

Unfortunately console mode is not very much documented. Therefore I tried to document it:

I hope, with this documentation it is useful for someone in the kirkwood scene.

Regards, Rudolf
