aplay no soundcards found

Back in August of 2021, I setup a dockstar with shairport-sync on a USB soundcard. All was working well. When Debian 12 came out, I upgraded and kept up to date on the latest kernels. But I was not checking if shairport-sync was still working.

I've gone back to the oldest kernel that is still in Dropbox 5.15.5 as well as the latest 6.8.7. All behave the same.

cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Set ]: USB-Audio - C-Media USB Headphone Set
C-Media USB Headphone Set at usb-f1050000.ehci-1.2, full speed

aplay -l
aplay: device_list:274: no soundcards found...

I've tried this USB soundcard on an x64 Debian 12 and it shows up under aplay. I've tried a different USB soundcard on the dockstar with the same results.

Any ideas on what to try? I'm going to try a clean Debian 11 install next I think.

Post the dmesg log and lsmod output for the kernel that you are seeing the above.
dmesg
lsmod
It's easier if we can see which module is running for this USB sound card.

I made some progress. I'm running latest kernel/rootfs again and found that it seems to be a permissions issue.

sudo aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Set [C-Media USB Headphone Set], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

I've got aplay working again. Now to figure out shairpoint-sync. Sorry for the false alarm.
