...on and on

I've been poking around, stripping my install process down as much as possible, trying to see if something I was adding is triggering this, but no luck so far. None of the usual suspects, /etc/modprobe.d/ etc are set to load anything. My initramfs config is set to list with no modules listed, as none are required to fully boot with the current kernel config. Are others seeing this on their Debian Kirkwoods?

Probably bug in Debian testing and/or systemd. I have not seen this.

When rebuilding the Kirkwood kernel on your own, you should add an extension to differentiate it. For example,
6.12.5-kirkwood-tld-1-kurlon
or
6.12.5-kirkwood-tld-1-kl

Have you tried to switch it to"dep"?

cat /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf | grep MODULES=
MODULES=dep

Also look in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules.

Re: Debian preloading modules excessively?

If I use 'dep' and don't clear out the excess modules before running update-initramfs, it sees them all and sets them to be loaded in the initramfs. Using 'list' and not providing any delays the excess load in until after rootfs is mounted. It's almost like it's just loading nearly every module built, as I see sisusb in that list even though it's absolutely not plugged in, and there isn't anything that would depend on it. I've been picking random modules like sisusb and brute force grep'ing nearly my entire filesystem for hints and so far no luck finding any clues.

If you're not seeing it then I agree, likely some testing shenanigans and I'll redirect my interests elsewhere for now.

And yeah, I should be better about naming and versioning, this started as a quick slam to see if I could get Debian testing on my GFN and... one week later I'm now debating if I want to learn enough to audit OpenSSH's sandbox BPF to get hardware crypto via afalg working in a way that could possibly be accepted as a fix for OpenSSH. Funny how these boxes can consume all spare time when you're not looking.
