After a 5-year absence, I come back to this excellent forum for the same reason that brought me here back in 2020's covid lockdown : trying to get Pi-hole ad-blocker running on my trusty old Seagate Dockstar.
It seems Pi-hole stopped supporting the armv5 architecture a few months ago, so mine stopped working when I tried to update Pi-hole a couple of weeks ago. So the only option seems to be to build it from source.
It was also high time for me to upgrade my Dockstar from debian 10 to Debian 12, which was surprisingly easy to do using the Debian-6.5.7-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 from the Wiki. ( i.e I did a fresh install, not an upgrade )
After several days of failed attempts, I finally managed to get pihole-FTL to compile, :) by making one edit to the CMake config files. plus I had to do a couple of edits to the main pi-hole install script, to allow the installation to complete on armv5.
I'll run it for a few days to make sure it all works ok, and then write a follow-up post with full instructions.
best wishes,
Rob
