Trixie on Pogoplug Pro

So I'm reading Trixie is due somewhere in August.
Anyone had any luck dist-upgrading towards Trixie on a Pogoplug Pro?

Not exactly the Pogoplug Pro, but I've dist-upgrade'd to Trixie on similar devices

* Pogoplug E02
* Iomega iconnect
* Goflex Net

For low memory (<= 128MB) devices, make sure you have swap setup.
All run fine, apt a bit more fancy looking. Looks like sysvinit is still supported in Trixie at the release.

For good success for devices with low memory (<= 128MB) I have been using the following steps which fix issues with ramfs.

  • Edit /etc/initramfs-tools/initramfs.conf file and change the RUNSIZE=10% line to RUNSIZE=20M
  • Run the command: update-initramfs -u
  • Run the appropriate command to regenerate your uInitrd (i.e. "mkimage -A arm -O linux -T ramdisk -C gzip -a 0x00000000 -e 0x00000000 -n initramfs-6.15.2-kirkwood-tld-1 -d initrd.img-6.15.2-kirkwood-tld-1 uInitrd")
  • Reboot your system

Back in March I moved. When unpacking my Pogo's, I left the Pro in the box as I had hosed up the v6 Pi-hole upgrade by forgetting NOT to run the cli upgrade command instead of properly compiling it. I've also never been able to get the Pro's to update past kernel version 4.xxx to 5.xxx because it always kills the ethernet and I've never been able to figure that out. I also need to figure out why the Pogoplug E02 I am running for Apple backups always fails to come back up on reboot. I have to pull the power for a few minutes, then it will start back up. Almost like it has a timer on the reboot command and it's weird and I've been unable to figure that one out either.

Anyway, long winded story to say that I have not upgraded to Trixie yet, but plan to jump back into it soon.

Perhap this is the reason. I think I've mentioned somewhere in the installation thread.

If you have netconsole set up for Debian, remove it. In kernel 5.15.x, netconsole does not work well for this box, it could cause network problem.

If you have serial console connected, it should show the reason why.

Thank you for the tips, I will give both of those a whirl when I dig it out of the moving box. I did all the troubleshooting I could think of on the reboot issue and I intended to post on here but completely forgot I could hook up serial console to see what's going on.

Based on https://www.debian.org/releases/trixie/release-notes/issues.html#last-release-for-armel

Quote

5.1.3. Last release for armel
From trixie, armel is no longer supported as a regular architecture: there is no Debian installer for armel systems, and only Raspberry Pi 1, Zero, and Zero W are supported by the kernel packages.

Users running armel systems can upgrade to trixie, provided their hardware is supported by the kernel packages, or they use a third-party kernel.

trixie will be the last release for the armel architecture. Debian recommends, where possible, reinstalling armel systems as armhf or arm64, or retiring the hardware.

Yeah, those armv6 RPis have bought us a few years for Debian trixie. The armel architecture EOL was proposed during bulleyes, but somebody realized that the rPis were still being produced and so there are too many armel users.
