Install of debian on a virgin GoFlex Net
September 22, 2017 04:38PM
Hi,

I'm installing debian (Wheezy) on a virgin (as in untouched) GoFlex Net.

The script http://projects.doozan.com/debian/kirkwood.debian-wheezy.sh fails as usual.

The other script http://dev.shyd.de/dockstar/dockstar.debian-squeeze.sh fails as well.

So, to the point.

The first failure is the valid-uboot.md5 file.
For some reason this link is a https:// link and wget on the original GoFlex system does not understand it.

wget: not an http or ftp url: https://jeff.doozan.com/uboot/valid-uboot.md5

Please update this URL to be not https:// in the script

Workaround: download it manually and push it with scp to /tmp, it wont be overwritten because the download fails anyway.

Second failure is the debootstrap thing, I'm getting version 1.0.91 of debootstrap.
Can anyone explain why this is still a problem?

If I remember correctly when I tried to update another device was that busybox wget doesn't support https. I had to install a newer version of wget on the system for it to work.
Look at your sources.list to make sure it points to a valid server as it may have been renamed from when it was current.

I also think my second problem with some of the scripts were that the current kernel version on the box was too old and I had to upgrade to lenny first.

Since a lot has changed since those scripts were made perhaps the current procedure for updating the systems may be more lucrative.

I had to really read it closely a few times to see what was happening but it will bring your system to Bodhi's most recent work and save a lot of troubleshooting.
