exportfs: /anyfolder does not support NFS export
March 07, 2014 05:26PM
I am trying to export anything .... no results....

This post is like desperate action... I am not newbie with linux, not newbie with nfs (I have been using NFS for years)
But with this case I feel stupid ...no idea what could be wrong...

Details of my configuration in last posts in thread:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,12096,15422#msg-15422
...and many many before...

basicaly:
- ARMel arch (hardware :Zyxel NSA 325 V2, rootfilesystem on pendrive (/dev/sdb1 - /boot part with ext2, /dev/sdb2 - rootfilesystem), u-boot bootloader in NAND
- two hdd with mdadm and lvm ... but this is not this case
- marvel chipset
- kernel 3.13.1-kirkwood-tld-2 kernel.

PROBLEM:
any entry in /etc/exports file caused message "folder does not support NFS export" ...

no matter if debian wheezy, squeeze, testing, if folder is on ext2,ex3,lvm, if nfs3 or nfs4, directly from pendrive, anywhere...

I give up, I spend many hours on that without any result ...

I know how you feel :) that it should work. You could try to use a new fresh USB bootdrive and create a new rootfs using my latest rootfs Debian-3.13.1-kirkwood-tld-2-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 (07 Feb 2014) (link in my signature)

Boot with this, and going through the setup again. I know you've done this before, but as a reminder:

- apt-get install nfs-kernel-server nfs-common
- apt-get install portmap
- create exports in /etc/exports
- /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server start

again, everything from the beginning...

purge any nfs related things, and install fresh , from the beginning....now....

root@debian:~# apt-get remove --purge nfs-common librpcsecgss3 libnfsidmap2 nfs-kernel-server rpcbind
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  libnfsidmap2* nfs-common* nfs-kernel-server* rpcbind*

manually:
removed `/var/lib/nfs/export-lock'
removed `/var/lib/nfs/.etab.lock'

reboot.

Is that a new USB/HDD rootfs?

BTW, my mount:

root@debian:~# apt-get install portmap
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting 'rpcbind' instead of 'portmap'
rpcbind is already the newest version.
rpcbind set to manually installed.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
root@debian:~#

but rpcbind is a "new version of portmap" so I think this is good enough ... yhmm.. maybe this is an issue ?
but shouldn't, rpcinfo returns good ouptut:

One thing is VERY strange:
nfskernel server stop
common stop
rpcbind stop

and:
root@debian:~# exportfs -a
exportfs: /usr/src does not support NFS export

...bug in exportfs command ???? ...for example badly interpreting filesystem type ? (for example not possible to export NFS from FUSE filesystems or any other "not known" ... )

definition of open function:
int open(const char *pathname, int flags);int open(const char *pathname,
Given a pathname for a file, open() returns a file descriptor, a small, nonnegative integer for use in subsequent system calls (read(2), write(2), lseek(2), fcntl(2), etc.). The file descriptor returned by a successful call will be the lowest-numbered file descriptor not currently open for the process

what is "-test client-" ????

hdd I am not using now. admittedly mdadm starts but I exported LVM groups ... so system is not able to import them .. so is not able to activate and mount, ... so not bother me...
Without NFS I am like without hand ;-)

You 're not done with your rootfs yet. Look at /etc/fw_env.config. Address needs to be consistent with the UBoot env address that uBoot expects. My rootfs is for most Kirkwood plugs that default to 0xC0000. Your stock uBoot might be different.

booted from stock firmware:

/ # cat /etc/fw_env.config
# Configuration file for fw_(printenv/saveenv) utility.
# Up to two entries are valid, in this case the redundand
# environment sector is assumed present.
# Notice, that the "Number of sectors" is ignored on NOR.

fixed my config in debian:

reboot

now fw_printenv started to work:

GOT IT !!!!!!

You were right ... ignore error message from exportfs, and just try to mount from client side .... BUT ... very important FORCE TO NFS3 (NFS4 doesnt work yet ... of course it has got sense because I have no auth services needed for nfs4)

(In listing above I have bug in netmask in /etc/exports.)

....but I am trying to remember .. what was wrong before... AT the beginning ... I was testing accessing with nfs3 but this was not work before ...

I did many changes in files,

another changes:
- disabled ipv6
- entries in /etc/hosts
- increased verbosity of daemons
- fixed ntpd was not working properly
- uboot env? ...Is it possible ???

I must get know what was the root cause, before I will find that I feel like a stupid child ...

I will revert back OS to backuped "not working" one and just try to use .... I will test this tomorrow.

Final Findings:
- in exportfs command there is probably bug in displaying bad message ... OR this is message for NFS4 which is not configured!
- exportfs error message is not error message, this is some kind of warn

THANKS A LOOOOOOT !

marcint43,

Congrats!

Concur. I think this exportfs error message was a terrible error message, a lazy way to report a warning :))

next caveat:
/usr/src2 *(rw,sync,no_root_squash,no_subtree_check,insecure)

asterisk is not working. There is need to be directly entered ip or ip/netmask.

Please also check that whether you are mounting from server or from NAS drive. As NAS drive doesnot support NFS Export.
Re: exportfs: /anyfolder does not support NFS export

I had the same message until I exported a mount point that had no spaces in it. I was using:

# /etc/fstab
/mnt/My\040Book /export/My\040Book none bind 0 0

# /etc/exports
/export/My\040Book	10.0.0.0/24(rw,nohide,insecure,no_subtree_check,async)

But it worked with:

# /etc/fstab
/mnt/My\040Book /export/MyBook none bind 0 0

# /etc/exports
/export/My Book	10.0.0.0/24(rw,nohide,insecure,no_subtree_check,async)

Note that the filesystem is still mounted with a space in /mnt.
