Hi there!
I have a dockstar running "squeezeplug" (squeezeplug.eu) and I would also like to get it running with a nano wifi usb stick like the logilink wl0084a or the edimax ew-7811un. I followed the steps in this thread, realtek package is up to date, other sticks work but those two won't work.

I even "made" the 8188.co.ku driver with the steps above.

dmesg says:

"8192cu: version magic '2.6.35.7-dockstar preempt mod_unload ARMv5 ' should be '2.6.38.8-squeezeplug preempt mod_unload ARMv5 '"

must be the wrong driver compilation. how can i compile the driver myself for the squeezeplug?

Hi,

I am using a Digitus DN-7042 (Realtek RTL8188CUS chipset) on my Dockstar.
Here's what I did to make it working:

1. download latest driver: RTL8188CUS

2. unzip and run install script:
$unzip RTL819xCU_USB_linux_v3.3.0_2971.zip
$cd RTL8188C_8192C_8192D_USB_linux_v3.3.0_2971.20111128
$sudo bash install.sh
the install script requires that linux headers are installed

3. somehow I had to blacklist the rtl8192cu module:
$sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
blacklist rtl8192cu

After a reboot, the wifi adapter finally worked.
Tested on 3.1.0-1-kirkwood

It might be necessary to run the install script on each new kernel version again.

Hope that's useful..

Thanks for the reply!

I already have the 8192.cu.ko driver installed, I think I need the 8188 or are they the same?

I also tried your driver 8192CU installation which led me to installing linux-headers, which I couldn't find for "2.6.38-squeezeplug" so I installed the kirkwood linux header. The "install.sh" script wanted to use the "...-squeezeplug/build" directory which I then had to mkdir and copied the stuff from the "...-kirkwood/build" folder to the "squeezeplug/build" folder. Didn't quite seem right. Anyway, somehow I managed to install the driver but the wifi stick still won't work. any more ideas?

Thanks!

Hi,

did you manage it by now?
Did you try to unload the module rtl8192cu?
Maybe the problems are conflicting modules.

Here is my (full) lsmod ouput:

Dear RomanG:

Thanks for writing the phrase:
"It works fine and boots with wlan0 up if network cable is unplugged."

He was not about wifi network (and no wlan0) until eth0 cable removed.

I need a valium.

Thank you very much!
