Zyxel NAS326 boot sometimes freeze at [ T74] BUG: scheduling while atomic: kworker/0:3/74/0x00000002

Hi!

Now when I dug out the NASes and connected via serial, I could check out a boot problem I have had for a while.

Sometimes, maybe every second or third boot one NAS freezes while booting and stops with:

I have not seen it occured on this box before. I tempted to blame on CPU Idle, but it was disabled by the kernel much earlier.

Note that it occurred around the time the random generator kicks in:

However, I have not seen any delay in my box, and you are running this box with USB rootfs (that usually helps the crng to run very fast).

My guess is some bug in Ext4 code.

You might try take this USB rootfs to another Linux box and run e2fsck. And then boot the box several times to see if the BUG surfaces again.

The problem in a nut shell is: some code is going to sleep in a critical section (that's forbidden), hence the kernel BUG mesage. This is a real bug in the kernel.

So no idea how to get around it.
