No sata on GoFlex Home :(
October 19, 2010 02:52AM
As described in http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,1738 i installed debian on my GoFlex Home.

The Problem: The SATA Port doens't work.

I changes the default arcNumber (2097 - Marvell SheevaPlug) and tried:

I also load with modprobe every driver in:
  • /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-kirkwood/kernel/drivers/ata
  • /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-kirkwood/kernel/drivers/scsi

Nothing happens. I only see some messages in syslog, but no error. Hotswap the HDD doesn't do anything.

Some more information:

I found a dmesg from a similar to my Hardware (Feroceon 88FR131, Kirkwood: MV88F6281-A1): http://pastie.org/1232798
There exists some entries from "sata_mv".

In my dmesg: http://pastie.org/1232828 is no "sata_mv".

I also do this:

root@GoFlexHome:~# modprobe -r sata_mv
root@GoFlexHome:~# modprobe -v sata_mv
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-kirkwood/kernel/drivers/ata/libata.ko
insmod /lib/modules/2.6.32-5-kirkwood/kernel/drivers/ata/sata_mv.ko

But in dmesg would only add the line "libata version 3.00 loaded." :(

I also add this to modules:
Quote

root@GoFlexHome:~# cat /etc/modules
# /etc/modules: kernel modules to load at boot time.

scsi_mod
libata
sata_mv
sd_mod

"modinfo sata_mv" and "modinfo libata": http://paste.pocoo.org/show/277456/

Now i tried the rescue system. dmesg from it: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/277460/

Same with "modprobe sata_mv". It doesn't do anything except the new line in dmesg: "libata version 3.00 loaded."

Peaslaker has done a lot of work with GoFlex Net. I would start by looking at his stuff here.

Thank you for the link, jeff. But i have no serial access to the box, yet :(

Now i'm thinking about the uBoot variables.
Current fw_printenv here: http://paste.pocoo.org/show/277466/

There is nothing about "ide"... no "ide reset" ore something else... (Note: I don't want to boot from ide)

Save yourself the headache and get a serial cable.

The GoFlex Home is uncharted territory, and I'd urge you to be a little more careful with what you do to it: not everything that works on the Dockstar is going to work for you on the GoFlex and you don't want to end up bricking your device.

I added "ide reset" in "bootcmd":

fw_setenv bootcmd 'ide reset; usb start; run force_rescue_bootcmd; run ubifs_bootcmd; run usb_bootcmd; usb stop; run rescue_bootcmd; run pogo_bo
otcmd; reset'

But didn't change anything...

a "serial cable" is ordered ;)

What's about "ide start" ?

Should i do this:
fw_setenv bootcmd 'ide reset; ide start; usb start; run force_rescue_bootcmd; run ubifs_bootcmd; run usb_bootcmd; usb stop; run rescue_bootcmd; run pogo_bo
otcmd; reset'

The Dockstar uBoot doesn't have support for IDE or SATA (because the Dockstar has neither). Wait until you have a serial cable and then follow Peaslaker's directions for building a uBoot with SATA support.

I didn't want to compile a own kernel :)

Is there no other way?

OK, i setup netconsole and see this:
U-Boot 2010.06-00695-gbd23130-dirty (Aug 30 2010 - 23:04:56)
Marvell-Dockstar/Pogoplug by Jeff Doozan
Marvell>> ide reset
ide reset
Unknown command 'ide' - try 'help'
Marvell>>

And yes, the site http://www.plugboxlinux.org/index.php5?title=PlugApps:Goflex_Net_custom_u-boot_and_kernel explain how to build a own kernel and a own uboot. I will try that.

But, would the existing patches included in original kernel/uboot sometimes?

I installed Plugbox Linux, now and sata works fine.

How to is here: http://plugapps.com/index.php5?title=PlugApps:Install_to_UBI/UBIFS_on_NAND_memory
