Doesn't boot Debian
August 21, 2010 05:04AM
Hello,
my DockStar doesn't boot Debian from the USB-Stick. I already have installed the new uBoot from Jeff some time ago, so I don't hope that this is a problem.
cd /tmp wget http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/install_uboot_mtd3.sh chmod +x install_uboot_mtd3.sh ./install_uboot_mtd3.sh

So, this is what I've done in my last installation:
1. I formated the USB-Stick correctly
http://img829.imageshack.us/i/cfdiskusbstick.jpg/
http://img713.imageshack.us/i/catdiskstats.jpg/ (after installation)

2. I installed Debian with the following instruction:
http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/install_lenny.htm

And there always different thinks that happen after a reboot (put off the power for a few seconds and plug it in again):
1. led start blinking green
2. led starts blinking yellow and the usb-stickes starts blinking for a few seconds
or
1. led starts blinking green
2. led stops blinking and the usb-stick starts blinking
3. nothing blinks for about one minute
4. led starts blinking green
5. led starts blinking yellow
6. after a few seconds, the usb stick also start blinking for a few seconds
7. led still blinks yellow fot the rest of the time

And that's it, but there are also some other combinations of blinking. And when I connect me via SSH to the Dockstar, I always see that the DockStar booted up Pogoplug.

Here are some extra information:

I think it's a very strange behavior and I hope you can help me.

To boot the system into the Pogoplug and put in the console "reboot" instead of a "hard" reboot (put the power off an on again)

Then you didn't have a problem.
Plug devices with chained bootloaders will change between boot source on every reboot.
BUT, I think they always boot from NAND when they are hard powered.
So, you never had an issue, it was all working as expected.
Cheers

PS: anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

The 'dual boot' issue can now be fixed by installing my newer uBoot on mtd0.
