Grrr. Where do I start? (Again.)

Wow. It's been a while.

My Dockstar is still running strong.

rat@redstone:~$ uptime
05:14:10 up 859 days, 3:22, 3 users, load average: 0.07, 0.04, 0.00
rat@redstone:~$ uname -a
Linux redstone 2.6.32-5-kirkwood #1 Wed Jan 12 15:27:07 UTC 2011 armv5tel GNU/Linux

I think you can probably figure out a few things from that. ;)

I have a second Dockstar that I bought long ago as a backup and decided to try getting that set up before I shut down the old system.

It's been too long so I'm not sure where to start. Since Wheezy is still current, I tried Jeff's script for that but it fails on debootstrapping. I found an image someone made for getting around this and it hangs on boot. Can never SSH in. And that's where I'm rather lost when it comes to the forums.

I'd like to get the newest workable kernel installed with Wheezy before I'm set to lock it down.

Do we have a current install script or guide anywhere?

Hi

I do all plugs by following the instructions as provided by Qui found here. this should give you a starter for 10 as it were and its mostly copy and paste.

Some of these instructions here clearly are not for a Dockstar, though.

rat,

You are a seasoned embedded Linux users, I've learned a few things from you way back, you have no need for tutorial :)

1. Update your rootfs using kernel 3.16 or 3.17 wheezy. Either update kernel and change apt sources to wheezy, or start with fresh USB rootfs.

2. Update u-boot:

I'm very scared. Hold me.

:)

Thing was that I remembered the near-default uBoot we were all running with that was installed by Jeff's script was incompatible with newer kernels, and it really has been over 3 years since I dealt with uBoot and knowing what needed to be done to install things. I just want working packages and kernel updates again.

I'll see how far I get with your version of a rootfs image over the last one I tried...

Sweet! Gonna miss that uptime, though. ;)

@rat,

As a reminder when flashing u-boot, Dockstar does not have UART booting, so recovery is JTAG only.
