Due to network limitations where I am, I'm not able to download torrents at all. Obviously I'm only needing to download official torrents like Debian/Ubuntu distro CDs, same as the rest of you :)

My plan is to setup a seedbox located in UK and access remotely, on my own hardware, a GoFlexNet.

So I need a reliable torrent client (server ?), web interface would be a nice to have.

Any suggestions ?

I have used several torrent clients by views are

1. rTorrent - Probably the most prefered client it has nice GUI and light on resources works very well in downloading and uploading , Simple Fast and Reliable.

2. Deluge - The fastest client i would say and most memory intensive if you have memory then its the way to go but its not really good for downloading lots of torrents together or keep large number of torrents.

3. Transmission - Most thinest client very light weight but i dont think its the best client though it works well on very low end device as well.

4. qBitTorrent - Very nice balance of speed and resource consumption very close to rTorrent though the GUI is not really great

I use transmission as a daemon. Rock solid has web access to the interface and also has a nice droid app too.

@dinjo - that's really helpful, I looked into rTorrent and ruTorrent for the web interface, seemed to be quite a lot to install ... but also seems very popular ... transmission I'm also hearing good things about too :)

@Gravelrash - thanks my friend, it seems transmission has web client built in ... just one question - is authentication built in, ie do you have a username and password to get to the web client ?

authentication is built in and can use http /https and you can also limit to ip address etc etc

Let me tell you that Transmission is really poor in finding peers when compared to torrent clients below are the steps for rtorrent and ruTorrent.

I haven't as yet had time to setup either transmission or rtorrrent, as yet ...

Looks like both are easy enough to setup, then it'll be a case of which web interface works best and download speeds.

Always used transmission, never had any issues with it. As i needed lightweight on the pogo, transmission always did the job well.

@WzL, I setup transmission using the Debian help page, it's pretty simple to do, little fiddling with a config file ... Simple is good because it saves time, for doing other things !

As an update, I'm currently using "Deluge" torrent client locally in Asia. It seems that by using port 8080 for incoming connections I can bypass my ISPs restrictions. So far I'm pleased with Deluge, and getting respectable download speeds. Haven't been able to get decent upload speeds as yet, but working on it.

It's possible that transmission or rutorrent could be configured to bypass ISP restrictions in similar way, but Deluge just worked and does all I need for now.

If you're looking to setup Deluge on a pogo or goflex, then search google for "headless duluge", you only need to install deluged and deluge-webui. Plus setup a deluge user like the tutorials show. Deluge can then be accessed via browser on a port on your box.

am looking forward to installing Debain Wheezy on a recently acquired (used) Pogoplug Pro [v3]. i have created a thread asking for suggestions on where to start from.

i have used Deluge earlier on my Goflex Home. i had installed it using the guide for raspberry pi. i had really liked Deluge. simple to set up. although rtorrent+rutorrent is still lighter on the resources i guess, but the simplicity of setting up Deluge was a good thing to note. if i have to install Deluge on my Pogo too, i guess this same guide again would be useful?

@InfoScav - I saw the thread, bodhi's answer is perfect ... once you have Debian installed, then should be plain sailing.

Couldn't comment on resource usage, I have so far no complaints with any client that I've installed in that regard. I don't think torrents are particularly resource intensive.

For deluge on Debian it's in their repository, so a couple of apt-get's and a config file to edit - that's it (as I remember!). It's the daemon and the web ui that I installed, works for what I want - I access via web ui and can add torrents there.
