bodhi ,
I had named it ROOTFS but it still didnt boot ; hence i went ahead and re-formated USB & created the linux and linux-swap partitions and now downloading this:

Debian-3.17.0-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2
md5:
fae6cfbec8c58da0066af1041cf89f2a

The script didnt work for me, getting stuck at chroot error - command not found and hence went to download your ready made rootfs.
A quick question - now, I just extract the rootfs to root of usb and reboot , right ?

OR

Do I have to follow procedure for this :
***********************************************************************
Download at Dropbox:
linux-3.17.0-kirkwood-tld-1-bodhi.tar.bz2
md5:
3fdee09de0e150298d1b04f485a0a698

This tarball contains 6 files:
linux-image-3.17.0-kirkwood-tld-1_1_armel.deb
linux-headers-3.17.0-kirkwood-tld-1_1_armel.deb
config-3.17.0-kirkwood-tld-1
zImage-3.17.0-kirkwood-tld-1
linux-dtb-3.17.0-kirkwood-tld-1.tar
linux-3.17.0-kirkwood-tld-1.patch

distro,

It's simplest to create the 3.16 rootfs:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?4,23425,23427#msg-23427

And the USB must have a single Ext3 partition, no swap parition. Login as root, or use "sudo su" (no need to chroot).

Thanks bodhi , 3.17 Debian didn't work and I did it with 3.16 and by setting rootfstype correctly. I didn't do any reboots for the time being and I am not shutting off its power supply in near future. lol.
Atm, running apt-get update && apt-get upgrade on pogo plug. And autofs will be the first package to be installed.

A quick question though , why it didn't work with 3.17 Debian rootfs ?
Also, what is the use of Linux kernels in association with Debian rootfs ?

I didn't install the 3.16 kernel , I just did the 3.16 Debian rootfs and it worked. In future , how do I update to 3.18.5 Debian rootfs ?
Pogoplug'a wget doesn't accepts https links ; A small suggestion that along with Dropbox links , can you also add http links for Debian rootfs , so that we can download Debian rootfs directly to pogoplug. Do we have any work around of this ?

Thanks for everything mate.

The default envs works with a non-FDT kernel, which is 3.16.x or earlier in my releases. The 3.17+ rootfs has Flatten Device Tree, so you would have to append the DTB (device tree blob) to the uImage. That's why 3.16.x is simpler to install.

The rootfs include the GNU OS and the Linux kernel pre-intstalled in it. So it is a complete Debian system.

Since you have a working rootfs, you can upgrade to kernel 4.x, no need to install the intermediate kernels, or redo rootfs. Your rootfs is compete from now on.

It's a good point. I will update the install tools tarball to include newer wget, and provide it in the installation post.
