Joey & Gravelrash,

What type of flash is in these cards? it is not RAM, isn't it?

Took a peek, it is NAND flash.

NAND bad?
April 10, 2015 09:11PM
It was said to be more durable than USB but not so much RAM. It's almost perfect, but not there yet.

What I'll do is finish some of the nags on my E02 and put some time into mini-pcie research 'fore the weekend is though.

What I do (think I) know is, when there's a bottleneck and you run out of RAM, usually it writes back to the hard drive at half the speed you can read. A seperate place to write can't help but help.

So at this stage it's unclear if we've taken any steps forward, but for sure we know there's no steps back :-)

I've got to start volunteering at Goodwill, behind the surveillance camera (j/k)

It seems like it is intended to be used a cache, not swap space. So I'm not sure it should be used for that pupose, it might not last long.

Perhaps, a Mini PCIe/SSD adapter with an SSD card makes more sense?

Older PCI but certainly worth a look, the technology has been there a long time...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815168001

Another strange possibility, there's dual mini flash storage adapters, where two mount to a mini pcie adapter and plug in. I can't see why that couldn't be configured like raid or dual-channel memory. Individually they'd be slow but timed properly it sounds within the realm of possibility.

And now your laugh for the day - I couldn't rmemebr the name of the mini flash disks they use on raspberry pi, and search terms show this... LOL

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/feb/09/raspberry-pi-2-camera-flash-power-off

I did NOT know that!

That laugh was lost since I had to read some irresponsibly scandalized reporting calling it "Xenongate", as if firing an EM pulse weapon ;) (visible or otherwise) next to an exposed unshielded board was never supposed to have any effect.

For the Pi's sake as well as the Pogo's BTW, could anyone port this "transceiver of all trades" http://www.harctoolbox.org/lirc_rpi.html ?

I will take a look at compiling this into Kirkwood plug first, if successful then Oxnas.

Great! :) For the RF I'm thinking of something like http://www.ebay.com/itm/Geeetech-433Mhz-Superheterodyne-3400RF-Transmitter-and-Receiver-Link-Kit-Arduino-/361267311916 (typically AM) on the GPIO, then putting the IR in convenient locations e.g. through http://web.archive.org/web/20140720050310/http://airwave.com.tw/ir-extender.html / http://www.marmitek.com/en/product-details/operate/operate-concealed-av-devices/powermid-xl.php etc.

TEN,

Try this Kirkwood module. Extract the .ko file and place it in

/lib/modules/3.18.5-kirkwood-tld-1/kernel/drivers/media/rc/

and modprobe it.

I have a 2 TB 2.5" external SATA HDD and have not tried this, yet. I don't know if I trim the case at both ends to a certain length and/or a certain way, will fit inside a PogoPlug Pro P02? Also, what I don't know is if I will need an extra power source because the SATA port from PogoPlug Pro P02 doesn't seem to include the power source or does it?

Most 2.5" drives ooperate from 5v at 500 - 1000ma, so you will need to tap power from the usb bus to power the drive.

The internal sata connection does not provide power so you will need to power it

space in the plug is v limited and you would be better placed with the drive externally, which will allow the plug to maintian in internal airflow to keep the componets in a reasonably cool state.

That's a good point and am glad you pointed it out. So, I will make sure my PogoPlug Pro P02 will have plenty of ventilation before I put the HDD inside. Also, the 2.5" External HDD is a USB3 and it will spin up without a problem when I plug it into one of the USB2 ports on my Seagate Dockstar. I will have to make sure it will also work with any of the USB2 ports on my PogoPlug Pro P02 before I set out to do so.

EDIT-1: I don't know if this 4-Pin Molex IDE to 15 Pin Serial ATA SATA HDD Power Adapter Cable can be modified to tap to the USB bus.

EDIT-2: Looks like this 15+7 Pin SATA Power/Data to 4 pin IDE Power Cable is a perfect candidate.

The one you show there is almost identical to the one that i used when i installed a 3.5" Drive to a V3 inside a Wooden Jewellery/Treasure Chest. I modified a usb cable to provide the power to the 5v rail and tapped into the 12v output on the PSU for the 12v
Re: Pogoplug sale! $5 after rebate

habibie,

You will need to modify both of your candidates to tap into the power source. I use this cable as a test connector, but I think you could install it permanently with some case modification to plug it in the back USB port (or if you are good with soldering then you could keep it hidden inside).

Last Sunday what looked like a portable 2.5" drive caught my eye in mud, gravel and snow. I was ecstatic thinking I could clean it up and see the innards, maybe even salvage an adapter USB cap on the hard drive. Turns out it was an iPhone 5! Working with 20% power and lost 58 days earlier. I turned it in to police, but meh... :-(

Gravelrash I like that PSU 12v idea - think it would run 2 x 2.5"s off one pogoplug? I'm still factoring my limits.

Bodhi,

Yes and I also saw it on AliExpress for about 1/3 of the NewEgg's price and about 3x the shipping time. However, I ditched the idea of using this cable mainly because it requires I hack the enclosure. OTOH, both cables probably won't work unless I shave off the ribs (where the antenna is taped between) on the enclosure and relocate the antenna somewhere else. The reason is the SATA plug on each cable will extend the length of the HDD that probably will exceed the length of allowable space available inside the enclosure. After studying more carefully, I don't know if the electric field emitted by the antenna will cause any interference to the HDD circuitry when the HDD is put right to the antenna. Looks like this project is a dud.

Unlikely as this is how most laptops are set up - it may/will limit the field strength of the wifi signal tho,

However, you can add external aerials and lead extenders to the wifi card.

Man, thanks! Honestly, to take the power supply questions to their logical conclusion, i wonder about car (12v DC) power? Probably a stretch aye?

I just got my Pogoplug Pros delivered, on the bottom they both say Pogoplug Pro, and all I've done is turned one on with internet connection off and check if it broadcasts any wireless SSID (no) and see if I can SSH into it (no it actively refused that and FTP).

I don't have any spare USB sticks right now and unless advised otherwise, might register one of them (real name or fake ya think?) and follow Qui's Debian thing.

I see. You can do this an an alternative:

blparam cedebug='1' > /dev/null

No, blparam is run inside Pogo OS shell. u-boot only accepts setenv command.

Did you put all cut out UPCs into a single envelop along with copies of the rebate invoice and rebate form or did you have to mail them out separately , i.e. each UPC + rebate invoice + rebate form in an envelope?

I actually just put it in the mail this morning. I ended up mailing in one envelope with two UPCs etc... in it.
