Debian on HP T5325 Thin Client

All,

Here is a test DTB. It did not work for me, but perhaps you'll have better luck! I can't boot stock OS so don't know if I ever got sound :)

Copy this to your /boot/dts/. And remember to save your current kirkwood-t5325.dtb first, to restore later if it does not work.

You mean recreate my entire boot folder, i run this one with embedded dtb. :-)
Once i get the shiny new uboot on i will migrate to seperate dtb

Will take me a day or so to get to do this, then should be able to feedback the results

updated the X11 LXDE post with information on getting web browsing and email working

No, only the uImage needs to be regenerated. It looks like I should look into this sound problem later when I can be sure that it works in my box with stock. Currently with the tweaked DTS, everything looks right but I still got no sound using a headphone.

@CV & Leggo,

You have the separated DTB, perhaps you should try this DTB to see if it makes any difference.

what modes/resolutions did you configure the framebuffer(s) with?

xgifb : ?
fbcon : ?

is fbhwdev available in your rootfs or should i look to build this myself, its been suggested i look at this in terms of the graphics. no rush on your part, just a question im asking of a more experienced and learned hacker.

I did not really pay attention to this area at all. Whatever you got right now in the rootfs is the default from the kernel! I think, in addition to superelchi for the dpf-ax stuff, you will be our other guru for display :)

Put the T5325 aside and am now playing with a previously hopeless Sheevaplug I picked up extremely cheaply because it had a torched PS. Bypassed the PS with a new barrel plug and am experimenting away......................

The rest of the stuff works a treat \o/

so im busy playing away - had a chat with a colleague at work who has some experience of writing and compiling his own frame buffer for a project so he has offered to have a look at the latest code from X for the graphics driver. I have tried compiling it and whatever i do its complaining about a mismatch in macros - even after i regenerate.

No promises on the graphics front though.

On a plus side i will be in a position to upload a more upto date xorg.conf file that has all the known settings for display size available to the framebuffer. theres a lot and some of them wont be relevant like 640x480 but at least it will give a few more options.

EDIT : I seem to have gone off on a tangent from my original idea which was to just run this a text console...

Note for anyone who wants to make their own serial console cable, here are the parts you would need from Digikey for the T5325 side in order to make it work:

4 Position Molex PicoBlade Connector

Pre-crimped wire assembly for connector

These things are alot tinier than they look in pictures so don't even think about crimping wires yourself - buy the pre-crimped wires I have linked to. Do yourself a favor and solder on a female jumper sleeve on the opposite end to add flexibility in usage as I have to switch the wire connections depending on if I am connecting to the T5325 or Dreamplug.

P.S. If you want a pre-crimped / pre-packaged connector this appears to be one that works, this one is available on eBay: Micro JST 1.25 Connector Set

Edit: Search reference, this serial connector works for T5325, Dreamplug, Guruplug and the original Pogoplug E01 (this is the one that looks like a Sheevaplug but has no SD slot or mini USB serial).

This works great on my T5325. Micro JST 1.25 is the right search term.

I've not entirely written off this, because it should be solvable. But I have not have time to get back to this sound issue. I'm still trying to get the Pogo V3 kernel to upgrade to 4.4.x in the other thread.

So for now, I guess we'll live with a <= $6 work around :)

btw $6 is a lot! that must be one heck of a usb sound card, i spent a whopping £1 to get sound on mine,

currently attemptng to beat my bluetooth dongle into behaviour.

Slow boat from China maybe $3. But ~$1.75 shipped, no way. Is there like a RaspI organization for soundcards as well there in the UK?

Edit: Wow, I was wrong about the $3. Lots of Chinese sellers on eBay for $1 or less if you are willing to wait. How can they possibly ship anything like that 1/2 way around the world and still make money on it? I can't even mail a letter within the U.S. for less than about half a dollar. It boggles the mind.

When you r talking about 5 plus years old equipment available for less than $10 sometimes than yes it is about the money. But I do agree bodhi deserves some compensation for his effort.

Agreed. I just got 5 t5325s for $60. The eBay seller asked for $80. I offered $50. Then s/he said $67. I said $60. Then deal.

No power supplies though. But I found pogo v4's power supply fits them perfectly.

Hey did you use a 3.5mm stereo TRS connector there for your serial console passthrough? If so, that's admirably clever :)

I think you are the first to come up with that idea. Very compact, universally available parts and could be used with just about any other Plug device. Mad genius I tell you :]

Edit: Next time I mod a Pogoplug Pro with external antenna and ESATA port, I'll throw in your mod as well. There is plenty of space for it below the MB. Total cost for the 3.5mm female jack and Soundblaster CD ROM cable (to connect to MB serial port) is less than $3.00. Worth it to not have to open up case all the time when experimenting plus unobtrusive when serial console not needed. I wish you had thought this up sooner!

Looka to be chassis ground - bled off from the screw connection that holds the jack in place - a very neat and tidy job. makes my 3,5mm headphone jack hack look very amateurish,

has anyone noticed yet that there are pin pads marked out on the underside of the board that appear to be GPIO / GPO pins.....

In many devices I TTL (this thin client, nsa310 and 325, also my nexx3020 minirouter) there is no need of ground. Must be that I'm using a usb dongle that takes the ground from the USB ground (just like power, I never EVER connect power to my dongle as it is USB-powered already).

The ground is at what Gravelrash said. But that is half right. The other half is the unsoldered pin of the jack which bends toward chassis by tension in the last pic.
