The router I connect it all with is a D-Link DIR-857. In the future I could be persuaded to swap with other routers but that's days away. That's because I forgot the logins and am in the middle of making a "sticker" for routers at thrift stores around here to have a labeling system. * Hey bodhi remember this because one of these days when I get an ARM TV box to image w Debian as a hacking box, I'd like to know there's that ability to change duplexes and check things easier. I'll be up another hour tonight if you need something tried.

When things are working correctly, that should be 1000Mbs and full-duplex. Those values are most definitelydefault values (0).

But these settings might be just artifacts of a real problem. So I am still thinking.

Try this version 2.16. If you could plug in 2 ethernet cables to MON and LAN, then it's even better! If not then use the LAN port. You should copy and paste these commands.

In the first few lines I wasn't copy-pasting and re-trying it cp'ed worked.

anyway both Ethernets hooked -up (to the router) and when it would ping both ping lights flashed (2 and 4 flashed of the right 1-4)

I think I understood the problem a little better. There will be one more build. And there is only one thing left I have not tried.

Did you look at the Ethernet port LED, did it ever turn green? or just blinking yellow?

The four LEDS to the right were always green, and the typically yellow LEDs to the left of those were I think always yellow.

I'll keep en eye on that and in the future will make a screenshot of an LED panel as an attachment here to minimize any confusion.

Directly after kwboot it looked like it was trying to ping both!

Attached is a throw-together I made with the pins soldered in. Never mind the soldering job, as it was an under-powered 22W solder iron and an aggressive housefly in the shed.

But this is directly what hooks where, if this helps anyone.

Remember something you guys, according to the manual, even if your regular power supply fails, you can still power it with PoE using the LAN port and something to power it. Gravelrash attached a nice manual around page 3.

I doubt I can be of much help now that you've taken it that much further, but if so let me know.

Maybe I can sponge some easy install instructions from you guys.

If all goes well, this will host every app that runs slower on Pogoplugs, like the home cloud stuff.

Plan A: Get an SDCard and/or USB stick with basic Debian, then copy it to 3-4 sticks and customize each one, judge what's best and winner gets immortalized. Then obviously keep an eye out for deals in the future.

Well Ray you're the Godfather of this, and Gravelrash and Bodhi sure didn't slack, and i'll pat myself even for not giving up (or rather, wising up when I did give up).

Both Joey and Ray got ethernet working! awesome! I need to study the test results more, but here is my observation.

Joey ran the right test (kudos Joey :-).

Ray did not run the right test, but it works (if Ray did the procedure below in step 1 below, then it means the driver actually did power up the egiga0 for us in 2.17 with the correction in my configuration in this version).

@Ray,

1. Try power down, unplug the power cord. Power back on, kwboot, and run test on egiga0 only.
2. Try power down, unplug the power cord. Power back on, kwboot, and run test on egiga1 only.

That's why netwask and gatewayip are important. Without tthese envs set, the router won't route the ping request to 8.8.8.8 (Google DNS). I did not ask you to do this test, so you did not set gatewayip and netmask.

The boot log looks good. Now we need to create the ON100 DTS, with the right GPIOs and other parameters. It will be easier now that we have new u-boot running, but it won't be trivial :)

Too late tonight. I'll do this tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure they will both work as I restarted from Power Off multiple times trying a few of the 6282 dtb files (none of which were as successful as booting without a dtb file as above).

Nope, look at the log file. I did not use a DTB file it used the machid from the environment. See below:

Not really.

arcNumber and machid are irrelevant in an FDT kernel. I've left them in there for backward compatibility reason. If the user happens to use the new u-boot to boot an older kernel, then these envs are to make sure it can boot the old kernel. The way I set up and wrote the kernel and u-boot instruction was that I wanted users to be able to boot any combination of old/new u-boots/kernels.

With kernel Linux-4.4.0-kirkwood-tld-1, those variables are ignored. The only thing that identifes the machine is the DTB, either separated or embbedded in uImage. So I'm pretty sure that you have this Dockstar DTB embedded in your uImage. You can check this by looking at /boot, if you see a uImage.orig then it was recreated with a DTB appended at some point. Or if its timestamp seems too new comparing to the uInitrd.
