debootstrap installer

The new installer uses debootstrap to grab the latest debian packages from the official repositories. This is a much more flexible installation method than the previous installer.

If you're interested in installing extra packages, or using a different release (sid) or getting the packages from an alternate mirror (emdebian), you there are a few variables at the top of the script that you can play with.

Hi Jeff,

first also many Thanks for the dockstar-installer with lenny and squeeze....both did work very smooth and the
installscripts are very well documented :-)

Yesterday I did take a look at your /debian/ Page and there is now only the squeeze-install.
Did you change to squeeze because of the freeze?

Because squeeze is at this moment in testing, will there be a chance to use your lenny-installer any
further? Or can I build for me self a Lenny-Mirror on a HTTP-Server (like on my Sheevaplug)?

Is there any archive with all files or a list with all files on the net and the news ones that are build/written by you?

Squeeze from the Net did take much more time to install as the tarball from Martin Michlmayr (with Lenny).

Do you got a suggestion where to get the connector for the serial cable? Here in my office we did find a old
SUN-fan with a 3pin Connector which should be fine for RX,TX and GND

The link to the lenny installer is at the top of the debian page.

I'm not sure what "list of files" you mean. Lenny just uses the tarball from Martin's site plus the sheeva-with-linux kernel. Squeeze only contains files from the official repository plus a few manually generated config files that are included in the installer source.

For the serial connection, I use a Nokia CA-42 cable that I bought off eBay for $3 and I just wrapped the wires to the pins on the board. It works well enough for testing. If you need something clean, there are other pages that list the Digikey part numbers for the connector itself.

Hi Jeff,
the list ist for me these lines out of the 2 Scripts (the initial Install-Script and the Update-Script for the MTD3)

BLPARAM_URL=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/blparam

URL_POGO_UBOOT=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/install_uboot_mtd3.sh
URL_DEBIAN_BASE=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lenny/base.tar.bz2
URL_SHEEVA_UIMAGE=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lenny/sheeva-2.6.33-uImage
URL_SHEEVA_MODULES=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/lenny/sheeva-2.6.33-Modules.tar.gz

UBOOT_URL=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/uboot.mtd3.bin
UBOOT_ENV_URL=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/uboot.environment
NANDDUMP_URL=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/nanddump
FLASH_ERASE_URL=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/flash_erase
FW_PRINTENV_URL=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/fw_printenv
FW_CONFIG_URL=http://jeff.doozan.com/debian/uboot/fw_env.config

If I got all of these files on my HTTP-Server while a little reconfigure the paths-vars
I could install Lenny from my HTTP-Server on my Sheeva.

Or did you mind some additional Files?

BTW: I did read about the Nokia Cable on some other page :-)

You can copy those files to your own server and change the variables in the script and the installer will still work.

This morning it worked without any problems.
like vincent said, maybe a problem with the debian servers...

thanks!
