David,

If your arcNumber is still 2097, then yes rename the file from "dockstar" to "plug" should work. I recall changing from "plug" to "dockstar" back when I set up the LED for the Dockstar.

Bodhi:

Can you tell me how to check arcNumber? I guess it should still be 2097 since I use the old flash drive backup from dockstar and did not change anything. Thanks a lot.

@David,

fw_printenv arcNumber

If that does not work, then you have some path problem, so use the full path:
/usr/sbin/fw_printenv

bodhi:

Thanks. I don't have this command. I have to use "apt-get install uboot-envtools" to get this command work. But I still get an error: "Cannot parse config file: No such file or directory". This one is installed with leny first and then updated to squeeze. This may be the problem. I have another dockstar which was installed directly from Jeff's script, the fw_printenv works fine (output is 2097).

You need to add the dockstar offsets to your fw_env.config file in /etc. It needs to look like this:
# Configuration file for fw_(printenv/saveenv) utility.
# Up to two entries are valid, in this case the redundant
# environment sector is assumed present.
# Notice, that the "Number of sectors" is ignored on NOR.

# MTD device name	Device offset	Env. size	Flash sector size	Number of sectors
#/dev/mtd1 0x0000 0x4000 0x4000
#/dev/mtd2 0x0000 0x4000 0x4000

# NAND example
#/dev/mtd0 0x4000 0x4000 0x20000 2

# This allows you to update the u-boot code from Linux.
#
# SheevaPlug offsets:
# /dev/mtd0 0xA0000 0x20000 0x20000

# GuruPlug offsets:
# /dev/mtd0 0x40000 0x20000 0x20000

# Dockstar offsets:
/dev/mtd0 0xc0000 0x20000 0x20000

edit - Actually, after looking at the error message again, your dockstar is actually missing the file.

Hi Bodhi,

I'm trying to understand how you got your pogoplug's green LED to work. Is there a way to make it so that the light would turn orange while it boots and then turn green when it is ready? Would that be very difficult?

Thanks for any suggestions...

mycorunner,

I have not set up the Pogoplug to go orange during booting. I only have the LED go green after Debian is running, and turn off when I shutdown. Likewise for a cold boot, it turns green after Debian finished the start up. You can see in the post above.

For the Dockstar, I have the arch number set to 2998. And the LED files are in the /sys/class/leds directory as "dockstar" instead as "plug", the orange light are flashing during boot and then turns green after system has started. There is a whole thread for that discussion in this forum in which rat-netbook covered this topic very thoroughly here.

That was a fun thread. ;)

Update to my previous post: I have sold the hacked LCD Keychain and the good Sheevaplug.

I still have another Sheevaplug for sale, fully working except it has a busted ethernet port, so I'm letting this one go for far less than what I paid for it. (An option is to use the USB port for a dongle since Sheevas have a dedicated SD slot for boot media) Email me at (email deleted) if you think you might be interested.

Yes, but not directly. Some had success with this: installing ArchLinux ARM first, and then do some extra works to get Debian running. See oddballhero explanation in this post:

Hmmmm... the Pogoplug Pro has the OXNAS cpu, rather than Kirkwood, right?

Which unit is this? It mentions "Classic" ...

That seems vague... EO2, P21 ? Anyone know?

May not matter much. I read they have been sending out "back ordered" e-mails.

I was looking at that one however the B01 model number turned me away. Am I correct in my understanding that this is the ARMv6 platform which may not work as well with the bootloader in Jeff's script. Is this correct or is the B01 model not a problem?
Thanks - Jeff

It is my understanding that the B0x and Pxx models are all OXNAS-based, rather than Kirkwood-based. The Kirkwood SoC is prolly what you want if you are going to do anything w/ the bootloader...

Too bad ... Bensbargain.net has this item _incorrectly_ listed as the E02 unit... it seems. http://bensbargains.net/deal/pogoplug-pogoe02-system-network-storage-30-at-ebay-226758/

bummer...

TBH, if you just watch eBay for a week you'll see a dozen or so POGOE02's go up for sale -you can usually get them for under $40 shipped.

^ Yes. B01 will not work with Jeff's uBoot or install script.

You can however run ArchLinux pretty easily -- http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/pogoplug-provideov3

Still on sale today!
Even better, if you're logged in as a FwB, the price drops to $19.95 at checkout!

It makes me wonder though, why the reason for the clearance prices? I can't imagine they're making money on them at these prices... what's next from Pogoplug/Cloud I wonder?

Found one Dockstar for $25.

Might have been a mislabeled/mispriced item as they're selling another for $95.
