Rob,

While in Debian, download the attached DTB to /boot/dts:
cd /boot/dts
mv ox820-pogoplug-pro.dtb ox820-pogoplug-pro.dtb.old
wget http://forum.doozan.com/file.php?2,file=1264,filename=ox820-pogoplug-pro.dtb,download=1
sync

Reboot and try to set the ethaddr using fw_setenv

Bodhi,

After rebooting the Pogoplug it does not make a connection.

So I mounted the Debian USB stick on my Raspberry and I found the ox820 file was downloaded but not with the right name. The name was part of the URL. Maybe I made a typing error in the wget...
I changed the name to the right one, ox820-pogoplu-pro.dtb and put the USB-stick back in de Pogoplug.

I restart the Pogoplug again and what happens.... The WiFi connection was up and not the Eth0 connection!
But the password was incorrect. I used root / root. So I could not start Debian.

Any ideas?
Rob

Rob,

This panic was due to the USB drive being messed up. Shutdown the Pogo V3 completely (unplug power cord too). Take this drive to another Linux box and run e2fsck to fix whatever problem it might have. And then cold start the Pogo V3 with it.

It doesn't help so I made a new USB Debian stick. But again the panic...
But there is something wrong with the wget statement. See below. The downloaded filename is wrong.
Maybe that corrupted my USB stick?
Tomorrow I will try it again with the old .dtb file, to see if there isn't any other problem.

If you want the wget command to create the file with the proper name, use:
wget -O ox820-pogoplug-pro.dtb http://forum.doozan.com/file.php?2,file=1264,filename=ox820-pogoplug-pro.dtb,download=1

@Rob, can you reformat that stick? or use a different one.

I reformat the stick, added the Debian installation and the Pogoplug runs fine.
But...after I renamed the ox820 file to .old and downloaded the new one (with addition by JT), and reboot.... panic again.
So I don't know what happens every time. Maybe my stick has a problem, I will try an other one.

bodhi,

I know what the problem is.... It's the new .dtb file. This is what I did:

I downloaded the new file as ox820-pogoplug-pro1.dtb. Rebooting, averything was working OK.
Then I changed in the uEnv.txt the ....-pro.dtb file to the ....-pro1.dtb file. Rebooting: and panic!
I changed it back to the original dtb file and the Pogoplug was running without problems.

I hope you can analyze what caused the problem.

Rob,

The DTB boots fine in my Pogo V3.

Redownload it and check the md5. See if it is the same file.
cd /boot/dts
md5sum ox820-pogoplug-pro.dtb

it's the same file... Maybe an other installation issue or should I update to 3.18.5 kernal?

Rob,

I forgot that you are still running 3.17 kernel. Yes, update the kernel to 4.4.38.

But backup your rootfs before doing that. Because it will be a massive change when you upgrade to jessie (the 3.17 rootfs is wheezy). If you rather not doing this then I will have to provide you with the DTB compiled on 3.17 to make things consistent.

bodhi,

OK, I will do that big step... ;-) But I'm still learning (!), so how do I make the back-up as you describe in step 1 of the kernel installation?
Thanks!

bodhi,

I have successfully installed kernel 4.4.38 and no panic with your .dtb file but no ethaddr update as well....

bodhi,

Yes I did and the Pogoplug is running fine with that new DTB file and the new kernel.

But I found that the problem of updating the ethaddr parameter is only with that specific parameter. There is no problem of deleting or add an other (fake) parameter.

I put the ethaddr in the /boot/uEnv.txt file and that was working. Now I see the right MAC address in my router.

Thanks for the report! It is a good work around using uEnvt.txt.

I need to look at this closely in the future release.

bodhi,

I found that I'm running wheezy and not jessie.... But the kernal is 4.4.38...
What did I wrong?

B.t.w. I'm playing around with the plug and now running Motion with an USB camera...

Re: Need help install rootfs for Pogo Pro V3

Rob,

The kernel is new and you can run with Debian jessie. Upgrading kernel alone does not make it jessie, you would have to change the /etc/apr/source.list and then upgrade Debian packages too. Debian jessie source will upgrade your system packages to the later versions that work with kernel 4.4.38. Before you do this, you must backup your rootfs, because it will be a massive change. If any thing goes wrong, just restore the backup rootfs.

To upgrade, edit your apt source list (adjust the locality in the 1st line to somewhere near your country region):

cat /etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian jessie main
deb http://security.debian.org/ jessie/updates main contrib non-free

deb http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-updates main contrib
deb-src http://http.debian.net/debian jessie-updates main contrib
and then
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
And after it is done, pay attention to the /boot folder changes (if any). If the initrd.image-4.4.38-oxnas-tld-5 file was regenerated, then you need to also regenerate the uInitrd manually.
