HP T5325 with bad flash - what to do?

HP T5325 with bad flash - what to do?
July 28, 2017 01:23AM
I seem to have received a faulty hp t5325 with bad flash.
The unit won't boot and reports kernel panic and errors in squashfs.
I tried flashing the latest official software from the hp, it installs without errors but again errors pop up.
Sometimes the unit boots fine but shortly afterwards it freezes.
Is there any way I can salvage it while I wait for another one to be sent?
Thank you.

kalehrl,

You can boot with kwboot using another Linux box. And then boot the Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 rootfs on USB:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,12096

See the HP T5325 working thread to see how others boot the new u-boot using kwboot:

These are some screenshots I made during booting the bad hp t5325.
I'm waiting for CP2102 USB TTL to arrive.
I read about kwboot and I have a Linux laptop so I believe I can just install u-boot-tools and get kwboot binary without the need to search for precompiled binaries.

You dont need to search for kwboot. It is right here in the u-boot installation thread;

I've got a 32bit Debian stable and I guess kwboot from u-boot-tools should work.

kwboot boots with the new u-boot temporarily so you can test if a new u-boot will work and not risk bricking your device so when you reboot it reverts back to the original.

kalehrl,

I am not clear how far you've got.:

Here you have booted all the way to Debian:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?3,26562,36448#msg-36448

But in this thread you are not!

Please posts only in this thread. And tell us where you are: posting the entire serial console log from u-boot banner to the point where you see the login prompt, or the error.

Try this so we can see where the booting stopped.

setenv bootargs_usb 'console=ttyS0,115200 root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=10 earlyprintk=serial'
setenv load_usb 'usb start; ext2load usb 0:1 0x800000 /boot/uImage; ext2load usb 0:1 0x1100000 /boot/uInitrd'

boot

kalehrl,

You should boot with kwboot like you did before:
root@debian64:/home/kalehrl# kwboot -t -B 115200 /dev/ttyUSB0 -b uboot.2016.05-tld-1.t5325.mtd0.kwb -p

And then, interupt serial console, get the listing of envs
printenv

Please post the entire serial console log here.

Depending what the log show, a few more envs will need to be adjusted to boot into the new rootfs on USB. Like you have done before during installing new u-boot in this post:

I know. That's normal when you run kwboot. Please do what I ask above:

I just tried it and I can't interrupt the kwboot, not even when it's near 99%.
It is simply unresponsive. Even ctr+c doesn't do anything, I have to close terminal.

No, you don't want to interrupt kwboot. After it is loaded and booting, interrupt at the countdown.

I know I get weird results from faulty connections at times. Reconnect it from scratch and try the other with kwboot too to check that it is that device.
