Voip Server on Dockstar (Debian Squeeze)
February 27, 2011 10:24PM
i have tried to install some Voip programs on my dockstar server.

TeamSpeak 2, TeamSpeak3, Ventrilo, Mumble

But it seems that () cannot run on ARM processor.. :<
Some articles told me that the can still work under an emulator...
but it is far too complicated for me...

So i have tried Mumble which can runs on ARM processor
http://mumble.sourceforge.net/

After installation, my frds join my server. but...

1. I can listen to all of them
2. No one can hear me talking
3. Thay cannot communicate to each other

i think it was the administroation rights probelm
but after some changing the settings for few times...
i still fail in it....

are there any successful case in running those server? thanks very much :>

Hey, I also installed mumbles and I am able to talk to my friend no problem, both of them. But I have not tested to see if they can talk to each other. In any case, I just installed mumble-server on the dockstar with default settings and configured it from a windows machine, which seemed to work ok for giving permissions to my friends.

I can post my mumble-server config file if you like ? I can try to get my friends to go on at the same time some time soon and see if it works for us all at once, should be good to know.

I can confirm a successful installation.
My system:
cat /etc/debian_version; uname -a
6.0
Linux dockstar 2.6.32-5-kirkwood #1 Thu Aug 26 03:31:56 UTC 2010 armv5tel GNU/Linux
And the mumble-server package:
root@dockstar /tmp # apt-cache show mumble-server | grep -i version
Version: 1.2.2-6
Server ist started automatically after install.

Connected with mumble client version 1.2.3-2+b1 (Debian unstable). worked.

Set password for SuperUser account with
dpkg-reconfigure mumble-server
to create channels etc.

Tested only with 2 clients connected inside my LAN.
Total overkill, but you could run Asterisk, create a conference channel, and have everyone call-in with a softphone such as x-lite -- that's exactly what my friends and I do for gaming communications several times a week. My friend has an asterisk box (a traditional PC running PBX In A Flash, so it's running CentOS) and our conference channel is far better than any Ventrilo or Teamspeak server that I have ever been on. We've had 6-8 hook-ups with no problem, using the G711 codec. I haven't tried to implement conferencing on my Dockstar+Asterisk+FreePBX, but I see no reason why it wouldn't work...

Have a look her http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/HowTo/SetUpATeamspeakServer there they run a teamspeak server on an nslu2 with qemu and it should be basically the same on a dockstar.
