Hey guys,

Anybody ran into this problem with Samba crashing with segfault?

uname -r
4.14.1-kirkwood-tld-1

cat /etc/debian_version
9.3

samba --version
Version 4.5.12-Debian

/etc/init.d/samba restart
[ ok ] Stopping NetBIOS name server: nmbd.
[ ok ] Starting NetBIOS name server: nmbd.
[ ok ] Stopping SMB/CIFS daemon: smbd.
[....] Starting SMB/CIFS daemon: smbdSegmentation fault
 failed!
[ ok ] Stopping Samba AD DC daemon: samba.

Yes bodhi ,

I have exact the same segfault issue with samba as you mentioned above.

I used my other test thumb drive with your older 4.4.0 rootfs and 4.4.x kernel updated to debian stretch on my dockstar.

I have also an additional issue in this setup compiling some program sources 'cmake' also quits with an segfault.

Thanks Tom. I think there is some quirks about new Samba version when we upgraded to stretch 9.3.

I suspect that the smb.conf has to do with this problem.

Many of my plugs run Ok with the same Linux and Samba version. Only the recently upgraded systems that exhibit this segfault error.

At the moment I don't have the time to look for the root cause of failure.

So I did an "apt-get dist-upgrade" on my installation. And now what should I say samba is working.

I think some important libraries didn't got installed with a simple "apt-get update".

That makes a lot of sense. Sometime, "apt-get dist-upgrade" is the only way to get Samba working consistently.
