Hi

If I use your debian version "gogo-dock.sh" and install your uBoot does the USB-stick works as well I have done with Jeff´s debian install script. What´s are the different versions of your uBoot. "0" and "install" is ok but what means "rescue" in this case ?

Thanks for the answer
Christian

the gogo-install is a complete install of a system "more complete than jeff"
incl build environment
0 means u have flash the uboot already
and install make it for a new device
rescue are not working anymore

my I ask, if it is possible to include the sata drivers, thus it could be used also on the Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Net, which is in the meantime cheaper than the dockstar http://geizhals.at/eu/a537466.html
Root access on the GoFlex is possible - http://www.openstora.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page

Re: new kernel package ready to use

sad - and sorry when I reply - but the GoFlex is the identical Hardware as the dockstar - the only difference is the missing usb switch and the sata connectors, which are on the dockstar, but not used, are used in the GoFlex ...

Apt-get upgrade
January 12, 2011 12:34AM
2 Questions:

1) I installed Gorgone's kernel ( 2.6.35.7-dockstar #5 PREEMPT ) to get LED support. However, it looks like LED support is in the current debian kernel now. Is there a good reason for me to use Gorgone's kernel..or should I just use current kernel?

2) If I want to stick Gorgone's kernel, but how I prevent "apt-get upgrade" from replacing the kernel package?

Thanks.
Re: new kernel package ready to use

I would like to know Gorgone's previous post dockstarpatchfiles_2.6.35.4.zip can be applied to the current 2.6.35.7 source? Do we still need apply patches for current latest 2.6.37 kernel to get DockStar LED support?

First I want to say thank you - it worked like a charm within one hour during cooking the the dinner - I did not find any donate button, but perhaps you would like to have a book or disk or ... that I can donate. Just send me your whish with pm.

Second - googeling the dockstar I found the hint - http://mein.homelinux.com/wiki/dockstar:installationsanleitung_debian - that the new serie of the dockstar is blocking SSH when you disable the Pogoplug software and do a reboot - so you have to install debian without rebooting the sockstar - perhaps this should be mentioned in your german howto

the above guide mentioned a wrong method to backup the NAND:

dd if=/dev/mtd0 of=mtd0.img
...
...

Jeff mentioned:
Quote
Jeff
To create an image of mtd0, you need to dump the nand without ecc. using "dd if=/dev/mtd0 of=mtd0.DOESNOTWORK" will automatically do ecc for you and will result in a corrupt image.

I second that request, as I don't have the time ATM to investigate on my own. Would be great to get some feedback on the matter.

You had 3 patches postet for Kernel 2.6.35.4:
- sheeva_dockstar.patch
- makefile.patch
- config.patch

I suppose we only need makefile.patch for the latest 2.6.37 kernel. Correct or wrong? Sorry, but I don't have enough knowledge on the matter, so a bit of help would be much appreciated. ;)

:-)
Thank you very much. Just compiled a new 2.6.37 based kernel for my emdebian. That's to say I will use it once I resurrected my dockstar via jtag, after my little mishap a week ago.
Re: new kernel package ready to use

Just complied 2.6.37 with Codesourcery 2010q1 crosstool under Ubuntu (tried without apply any patch):

dpkg-deb: building package `linux-image-2.6.37-dockstar' in `../linux-image-2.6.37-dockstar_1.1_armel.deb'.

Will see if it works and get back...

@Gorgone

Is it mandatory to set arcNumber to 2998 to use this new kernel ?
Thanks.

Pardon, but how is the new version from post 157 to be installed on a dockstar running an older build of your implementation? So far I have only installed using http://ss4200.homelinux.com/dockstar/gogo-dock.sh from the pogoplug prompt.

I'm glad to see the ch-340 usb serial driver in this version. Thanks for all your work.

but as you mentioned, the kernel cannot recognize the board correctly:

Could you post your patches on 2.6.37?

Re: new kernel package ready to use
January 17, 2011 02:54AM
@gorgone, my apology... 2.6.37 kernel unable to recognize the correct board type was due to I forgot to "saveenv" after changing the arcNumber to 2998 in uBoot. After done that and "reset" to reboot everything detected correctly now.

So confirmed, no patch is required for compile the latest vanilla kernel for DockStar!
