Installation on HD on a NAS326 with V5.21 (AAZF.3) Firmware
January 05, 2019 04:49AM
Hi there,
i am a newbie trying to get Debian on the NAS326. I used the instruction C at the top of that thread. Unfortunatly the setenv-command is not available using PUTTY for the ssh on my NAS. So i was stopped very early :-( Has anybody an idea what to do ? Can I use the export-command ? Do i have the wrong firmware ? Thx a lot for your help...

Greetings
Michael

Michael,

My bad, those should be fw_setenv. Copy/paste error :) let me revise section C.

Hi Bodhi,
again thanks a lot that you answer my stupid questions. But in this moment i have a running NAS with the HDs acting as one installed. Out of that situation, do i have to disassemble it an do a new format ? i don´t understand the installationpart you sended me. At that moment i can not do any of the commands like cd and so on the terminal. Thx for your patience ...

Greetings
Michael

Michael,

If your HDD has the running system, then you should install the Debian-4.12.4-mvebu-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 on USB thumb drive. After it booted with USB successfully, you can reformat the HDD and copy it over.

Hi Bodhi,
i got it running via USB :-) From this point, i formated the sda1-HD with an EXT3-Filessystem. Copying the tar file to the main directory and extracting it. Changing the env with fw_env and all the other things out of the tutorial. Now i can not get any connection to the NAS. What can I do ?

Michael,

If you could, connect serial console to make this easier. Without serial console, it's harder to troubleshoot booting problem.

ATM, if you cannot connect serial console soon (waiting for purchased parts to arrive), you can recover by:

1. Unplug the HDD and USB, power up. It will boot back to stock.
2. And then repeat the USB installation.

3. Before trying to setup to boot with HDD again, get the output of

dmesg
fw_printenv
And post the output here. I'll help to adjust the envs so that if USB is plugged in, it will boot that system, and if it is not it will boot HDD rootfs. That way you can always have a Debian system running and it'll make it a little easier to try the HDD installation.

Michael,

Boot with the new USB rootfs.

Use command line parted to create one partion for the first HDD. And then use command line mkfs.ext3 to format it (also label it rootfs at the same time).

Leave the 2nd HDD as is.

Michael,

Run these commands on your SSH terminal
dmesg
mount
cat /proc/mtd
fw_printenv
cat /etc/fw_env.config

And post the entire output here.
