Probably your rootfs was not prepared properly. So we need to see more during kernel booting.

Interrupt serial console at countdown. And

setenv custom_params 'earlyprintk=serial'
boot

And post the log here.

Re: Problem starting Linux Kernel 4.4.176 Oxnas (OX820) Pogo V3
April 18, 2019 07:34PM
On this box, when the kernel stops booting that early, there are 2 possible reasons.

1. What type of USB drive: brand, model? USB 2.0 or 3.0?

2. Did you become root before running the tar command to extract the Debian rootfs archive? Was it formatted as a single Ext3 partition?

Mount this USB rootfs on another Linux box. Assuming it is mounted at /media/sdb1.
mount
cd /media/sdb1
ls -lt
ls -lart /media/sdb1/boot

And please post the log of the above here.

I have 2 drives, 1 is a simple flash drive, for 1GB. USB 2.0
And the second drive is a box with a hard disk USB 3.0

The same error are on both flash drives

I took a disk image here https://github.com/Juul/pogoplug-pro-debian/releases

On Gparted formated and create ext3, label rootfs and extract:
sudo tar xvjf /path/to/Debian-4.4.54-oxnas-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2

Sorry for bad English.

$ cat etc/fstab
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>

I took a disk image here https://github.com/Juul/pogoplug-pro-debian/releases

That's never recommended. What Marc Juul did was wrong. He should point to my release thread in this forum to direct peope here to download the rootfs using my Dropbox link. That's the only way you can be sure that the rootfs was not tampered with. Or at the minimum, he should tell people to go here and get the sha256 hash so they can check the integrity of the rootfs.

Here is the release thread:

Updated 02 Aug 2017:

Rootfs Debian-4.4.54-oxnas-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2 was uploaded.

Basic Debian stretch Oxnas rootfs for Popo Pro/Classic V3 plug:

- tarball size: 180M
- install size: 477M
- Installed packages: nano, avahi, ntp, busybox-syslogd (log to RAM), htop, dialog, bz2, iperf, ethtool, sysvinit-core, sysvinit, sysvinit-utils, mtd-utils.
- see LED controls in /etc/rc.local, and /etc/rc0.d/K08halt
- see some useful aliases in /root/.profile
- root password: root

Download at Dropbox:

Debian-4.4.54-oxnas-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2

So download the rootfs using the link in the section above.

Also running the tar command this way is wrong.
sudo tar xvjf /path/to/Debian-4.4.54-oxnas-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2

Note the installation instruction said

INSTALLATION:

Installation can be done on any Linux box, with a fresh USB drive (HDD would work fine too). It is assuming the USB drive is mounted at /media/sdb1.

Note: all steps below must be done while logging in as root user (not sudo). If you are not the root user then don't continue, because the rootfs will not work.

You need to become root first, sudo will not work. So before extracting the archive
su -

And then

cd /media/sdb1
tar -xjf Debian-4.4.54-oxnas-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi.tar.bz2

celove2,

I think it is your USB drive. Try using a different flash drive, preferably Sandisk brand. And plug in that drive only, to the port next to the Ethernet port in the back.

Tested on 3 Flash. NOT WORK :(
Maybe problem in RAM memory?
How can test memory in u-boot?
Thanks.

celove2,

> Tested on 3 Flash. NOT WORK :(

Bummer!

> Maybe problem in RAM memory?

Not likely.

Let's try this. Let's load only uImage and the DTB, we don't care yet if the rootfs can be mounted (uInitrd does that). We'd want to see if the kernel can start and finish booting first (i.e. will go pass that point where it hang).

Power up, interrupt serial console and

setenv custom_params 'earlyprintk=serial'
setenv bootcmd_exec 'run load_uimage; run load_dtb; bootm 0x60500000 - 0x62c00000'
boot

And please post the log here.

celove2,

I have a feeling that this problem seems quite familiar. I have probably seen it long ago, but now I could not find it in my notes for the Pogo Pro.

Do you have the Pogo Pro V3 with Wifi card? exactly which model number (look at the box or the sticker at the bottom of the case).

If you have the Pogo V3 Pro with Wifi card, try to open the case and unplug the card temporarily for now. And boot with out that Wifi card. It could cause the hang up if it is faulty.

And go back to booting with just these 2 commands:

setenv custom_params 'earlyprintk=serial'
boot

Ah!

Then you need to use a different DTB, this is wrong:
loading DTB /boot/dts/ox820-pogoplug-pro.dtb ...

Try again

setenv custom_params 'earlyprintk=serial'
setenv dtb_file '/boot/dts/ox820-pogoplug-classic.dtb'
boot

Cool :)

Repeat the 2 commands and save it before booting
setenv custom_params 'earlyprintk=serial'
setenv dtb_file '/boot/dts/ox820-pogoplug-classic.dtb'
saveenv

boot

Next time it will be OK to let it boot automatically.
