Hi,
So I have been trying to resurrect my old Netgear Stora MS2000 for a couple of nights now and can't really get it to work and I'm a little bit stuck on how to proceed, this is the log from my serial console if i just boot the MS2000 as is

Basically it's fakked... so i downloaded the latest U-boot uboot.2017.07-tld-1.netgear_ms2110.mtd0.kwb and managed to boot the MS2000 with the help of kwboot. I created a USB-stick with Debian-4.12.1-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi and go this far with the bootup...

And now i dont really know how to proceed, it feels like im missing something? I think i also would like to flash a new U-boot for it since its well a heap of poo right now, but am i correct that you need a booted kernel on the device to be able to actually flash a new U-boot? Or have i compleatly missread the guide somehow?

Yes, the u-boot installation steps were written to be excuted inside a running OS. It could be stock, or Debian, ...any distro. But not at serial console.

What you did above was correct. But this variable is wrong (might be my typo, I have to check u-boot internal source code), so the kernel could not proceed booting

So kwboot again, and interrupt serial console

See now it will boot all the way into Debian.

Hey bodhi thanks for the reply however no luck, log down below, i also realized i built my USB-stick on a older rootfs I am now trying with Debian-5.2.9-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi still issues tho.

You did Step 4, but should not, during the rootfs creation, since you're booting with the new u-boot:

4. Create uImage with embedded DTB for booting with older u-boots (2012 or earlier). Do not do this step if you have installed the latest U-Boot for Kirkwood (or are installing this u-boot at the same time).

Please replace kirkwood-goflexnet.dtb below with the correct DTB name for your box (see the folder /media/sdb1/boot/dts for the exact spelling of your Kirkwood box name).

Generate the uImage with DTB embedded inside:
cd /media/sdb1/boot
cp -a zImage-5.2.9-kirkwood-tld-1 zImage.fdt

If you did, then mount it on another Linux box and restore uImage:

Yeah i never built the rootfs i just downloaded the premade one (that is linked in the "Linux Kernel 5.9.12 Kirkwood package and Debian rootfs" thread) Debian-5.2.9-kirkwood-tld-1-rootfs-bodhi, so i did just that and skipped step 4 aswell.

At some point you've changed the bootcmd so it is wrong currently:
bootcmd=setenv bootargs $(console) root=LABEL=rootfs rootdelay=8; run bootcmd_usb; bootm 0x200000 0x800000

So,

1. Make sure the rootfs is unchanged (skip Step 4).

2. Restore bootcmd in serial console,

setenv bootcmd 'run scan_disk; run set_bootargs; run bootcmd_exec'
setenv dtb_file  '/boot/dts/kirkwood-netgear_stora_ms2000.dtb'
printenv
boot

after it booted, you can proceed to flash u-boot image and its env image.

My good sir! you are a legend, that must have been left from when i tried diffrent ways of restoring it! I had no clue that the envs where still there from a different guide! thanks a lot I have now booted successfully into debian! :D i'm gonna try and flash the new u-boot now thanks a lot again!
