Yes. EXT3 is the default set in the uboot environment, so use that.

Thank you. I have extracted the debian tar file into the root of an ext3 USB drive and inserted into the pogoplug.

Still no green light and nothing. Not responded via network too. Please help.

Did you setup netconsole (as instructed)? If so, interrupt the boot process and post your uboot environment.

Sorry, I didn't. I felt now so stupid. I don't have a serial cable setup too. I have flashed the uboot steps as I have mentioned, haven't changed the default variables.

vaidyasr,

Don't worry, we all made little missteps in the begnning :)

Let me make sure I understand what you did so far. You've followed the instruction in this thread:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?2,11663

But did not do this part:

Quote

- Flash uboot.environment to 0xC0000

# /usr/sbin/flash_erase /dev/mtd0 0xc0000 1
Erase Total 1 Units
Performing Flash Erase of length 131072 at offset 0xc0000 done

# /usr/sbin/nandwrite -s 786432 /dev/mtd0 uboot.environment
Writing data to block 6 at offset 0xc0000

Is that correct?

No, I did that part too.

And did the below steps too.

Quote

# fw_setenv mtdparts 'mtdparts=orion_nand:2M(u-boot),3M(uImage),3M(uImage2),8M(failsafe),112M(root)'
# fw_setenv bootcmd 'usb start; run force_rescue_bootcmd; run ubifs_bootcmd; run usb_bootcmd; usb stop; run mmc_bootcmd'
# fw_setenv mmc_bootcmd 'mmc init; mmc init;ext2load mmc 0:1 0x00800000 /boot/uImage; if ext2load mmc 0:1 0x01100000 /boot/uInitrd; then bootm 0x800000 0x1100000; else bootm 0x800000; fi'

But not done the below steps.

# fw_setenv arcNumber 3960
# fw_setenv machid F78

It should boot my Debian rootfs even if you've missed this step. If there is no green LED, then U-boot has not gotten to the kernel loading phase.

- Was the green LED light flashing initially?
- If you have the log of what you did, was there any error during flashing u-boot and u-boot envs to NAND?

I don't have a log of what I did. But I am sure no error, and the output was same as mentioned in your post. and I have verified the fw_printenv command too.

The green light was not at all flashing after reboot. When I switch on the pogoplug with the USB drive on top, I can see the led on the flash drive was blinking initially, may mean it was reading something. and no green light after that. The pendrive was formatted as ext3 and extracted the contents of the debian rootfs tar file.

The only option was to return it for a replacement?. I am still covered under 30 days replacement/refund.

vaidyasr,

The only way to recover now is connecting a serial console and fix any missing u-boot envs or other problems. See this thread for what to buy for serial console:
http://forum.doozan.com/read.php?8,13263

Since the Pogo V4/Mobile does not have a serial header installed, you'll need to solder it in. So if you're not up to that, then get a replacement would be a safe choice.

The serial cable itself costs $22, whereas the pogoplug is $22.99. So better replace it. Thanks for your support and will get back to you once I got the replacement.

BTW, I am close to release u-boot version 201.07 for all Kirkwood plugs, including the Pogo V4/mobile. When you got the replacement, see this thread for the new U-Boot:

Thank you. And is there any thread to start from original OS to Debian without referring multiple web pages?. Of-course by giving reference to the original web pages, but steps mentioned in a single thread.

It seems you were using pogoplug for long (3+ years) time, are you using USB hub with pogoplug?. If yes what brand and spec. Thanks

These are 2 best hubs I've used for these Kirkwood plugs:

USB 2.0 hub:

USB 3.0 hub:
